Just ordered a flat of Federal 1oz #8 loads.

Gonna get fine tuned with my Franchi Instinct SL over the next couple of months. Gonna leave my regular 'skeet gun' at home and just use this. Gonna go to NDak and want to get used to this lightweight gun.

Anyway, I am gonna have 250 purple hulls.

Only shotgun reloading I do is for 12ga target loads.

Do people still like the Federals or do they go in the trash?

I reload them, don't trash them.

Day in day out 16 ga fed hulls are some of the most versatile hulls you can use. A staple around my loading bench. 3-4 times and toss. Mb

In the mid-80's, goodness, near 40 years ago, I bought 30 boxes of Federal shells from an estate sale for $1.00 each. Between cutting some back for 2 1/2 in. hulls for my drillings and keeping the others 2 3/4 I've just about used them all up.

I reload Federals but I have enough that I won't pick them up nor dumpster dive for them. I might accept empties if someone handed them to me but I wouldn't ask someone to save them for me. When one has a few thousand empties on hand they get a little choosy.

I would suggest keeping the empties and invest in a reloader. 16 ga is currently popular so ammo is not difficult to find but that has not always been the case in the past and likely to occur again in the future. Load selection is also pretty limited so being able to load that which is not readily available or maybe not even offered might be nice. Plus, 16 ga ammo is higher in comparison to 12 and 20 ga loads so one can recoup then save on loading quicker.

A single stage MEC would probably be fine for most. I get by just fine with mine and I shoot a fair bit of 16 ga.

Thanks for the repiles

Not really interested in reloading them.

I have found someone who will take them

I load 16 ga hulls, but not Federals. Don’t toss them, someone will want them.
