Anyone tried one yet? I've seen them advertised for a nickel under $500.
"An archer sees how far he can be from a target and still hit it, a bowhunter sees how close he can get before he shoots." It is certainly easy to use that same line of thinking with firearms. -- Unknown
Okay, just looked at the Caldwell. It’s a lot bigger than the Garmin, but has color! They also mention it has a sight of some sort for accurate alignment. Good idea, but the Garmin doesn’t appear to need a sight, not so far anyway.
Oh, I already have a Garmin ... and as you mention it's about a quarter of the size of the Caldwell. I watched a video of the announcement at Shot Show, and it looks like the primary "improvement" over the Garmin is that Caldwell calculates BC at flight. In my neck of the woods that's not a big deal. At the ranges I shoot, my round nose bullets with the BC of a cinderblock will do everything that a high BC bullet will do.
Big Country Sport Goods in California has them listed for $499.95. I don't think they're in stock yet, though.

It’s been a looonnng time since I took a poke at a deer at much over 100 yards, and even with the recent improvements made at my local WMA, 300 is probably as far as I’ll ever get a shot, so the added functions don’t cancel the negatives related to the size. Others will no doubt find them more useful.
First one is True Ballistic - $900, but it looks like it's primarily for an air rifle as well...at least I only see them on air rifle sites.

I met a gentleman at the range Monday and he had the FX True Ballistics Chronograph. It’s pretty nice and even talks to you. He was shooting a magnum rifle as all of his velocities were 3280+
