OK here we go: T/C Encore 50 cal muzzle loader blue weaver base & rings with 1.5x5 Bushnell camo scope. Shot about 60 times. Has taken 3 deer. 2nd barrel is a blue 26" bull in 22-250 with weaver base & rings and a T/C 3x9 scope. This barrel shoots 1 hole groups at 100yrds with S&B 55gr SP ammo. No marks on either scope. A well taken care of firearm. 3rd barrel is new in box 444 Katadin. This barrel is d&t for scope and has viz sights, plus muzzle brake. Will sell whole package for $850.00 shipped to your FFL. If someone wants just one of the rifle barrels, I'll break-up the package. I forgot to mention that it has realtree composite stock and forend. Muzzle loader has realtree forend also. Email or PM is fine: firearms44@aol.com Thanks Ken

How much for the 444 barrel shipped to Oklahoma city?
I need a barrel to cut off and make a good pistol barrel for hunting hogs.

The 444 Katahdin is about the best pig killer I have ever used.
McClura, you could use the katahdin as is in pistol format, I bought a 444 15" Encore barrel that has a break on it and it is 16.5" w/break, just 1.5" shorter than the katahdin. Besides
you probably don't want to cut the porting off, it helps alot.
I've got to say this is a great deal,if I didn't alredy have all of thes barrels I'd jump on it at this price.

Cisco, Not looking for trades on this Encore package at this time. McClura listen to uncle joe, you don't want too cut this barrel. You can take his advice and order a handgun ported barrel. Horsefly80 I want to make sure other barrels sell before I sell it as frame with 22-250. I have an email for just the 22-250 barrel from John. I think it would be best sold as muzzle loader and then sell other barrels seperate, or horsefly80 buy muzzle loader and 22-250 barrel for $650.00 and then I just have to sell the 444 Katadin for $200.00 Any takers on this combo ? Questions ?

I am a bit interested myself, but I have a question about what has been said about "ordering a pistol barrel" I thought that one couldn't change a TC rifle into a pistol or vice versa becasue it was against federal firearms laws. is that true?

Yes, this is true. T/C sells a handgun frame/pistol grip and forearm as a package. No barrel. Buy what ever barrel you want to make it a handgun. Same for encore rifle, you get the same frame/receiver with stock and forearm and no barrel, unless there is a complete gun in the rack in the caliber you are looking for. Both encore pistol and long barrels will fit the encore frame. These frames are not stamped handgun/rifle so I really don't see how ATF can tell other then the serial #'s. I've purchased one of each in the past and tried to stay with the rule. Ken

No longer an issue.
The 1992 Thompson Center Supreme Court case (http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/91-0164.ZO.html) upheld an earlier Appeals Court decision when it stated as its final ruling that "Accordingly, we conclude that the Contender pistol and carbine kit when packaged together by Thompson/Center have not been "made" into a short barreled rifle for purposes of the NFA. The judgment of the Court of Appeals is therefore Affirmed." This was a ruling in T/C's favor on a point of law that is effectively integrally related to this issue. Thompson Center then utilized this affirmative Supreme Court ruling and clarifications as the basis for the following letter that they sent to customers who inquired of them on this particular receiver legality issue.
The following information is from old rec.guns newsgroup posting related to this topic that I dug up from the gunbroker.com forum area:
"I wrote T/C a letter on this issue after hearing about a court ruling. According to T/C, in letter dated 1 March 1999:
"Thompson/Center Arms Co. went all the way to the US Supreme Court to establish the lawfulness of the Contender pistol and carbine (including the carbine kit), and won. The Supreme Court opinion also establishes the legality of the Encore system, which has similar interchangeable parts."
"With these systems, a receiver may be assembled either with a pistol grip and pistol barrel, or with a should stock and rifle barrel (minimum length 16 inches). A barrel under 16 inches in length must never be assembled onto the receiver when the shoulder stock is attached. Within that parameter, the consumer may use the parts to make a pistol or carbine, and may change the configuration at will."

TC has been sending out this incorrect info for years.......they are aware of the following letter and they know the info you posted above is wrong!
Yes, the TC court case did happen.....however, the case revolved around the legality of converting a Contender PISTOL into a rifle through the use of a "carbine kit".....at the time the case was filed, TC did not produce a Contender rifle.....they were all handguns.......while it is perfectly legal to convert a handgun into a rifle, it is definitely NOT legal to convert a rifle into a handgun!!
Read what the BATF has to say about converting TCs:

I will stand corrected on this issue at this point in time, but I just got off the phone with a TC distributor that explained he has a letter from ATF dated late 2005 or early 2006 that allows it except in NY, California, Hawaii and Canada as well as any jurisdiction that has handgun specific regulations. He said he will forward a copy to me and I will post here when I receive it. In the interim I guess you are on your own. He told me it took him about 20 min to get the information from an agent after a phone call to the ATF. Currently not an issue to me as I have three frames one sold as a rfle one pistol and one ML. and so far I have been able to keep dedicated to the species.

If his letter isn't from the Technology Branch at the BATF......it isn't worth the paper it is written on......might keep him out of trouble if it is addressed directly to him, but it won't keep anyone else out of the slammer.........local agents #1 don't generally know the technicalities of the law and #2 don't have the authority to issue a legal opinion.........and I can assure you, you WON'T get a letter from the Technology Branch overnight.....the response posted above took over 7 months.
Having said all that, I'd sure like to see a copy of that letter!!!
