Re: Ticks Yoder409 04/18/24
Lint roller ain't a bad idea !!!

Gonna be mixing up the permethrin any day now and spraying all my outerwear down.

A few years back, I went back to wearing bibs. I tuck them into my snake boots. Makes a tick REALLY earn it if he gets on to my bare hide.

Just a few weeks back I was hunting with a fellow who got Alpha-gal Syndrome from a tick. He can no longer eat red meat because of it. Becoming more prevalent in my area is DTV/Powassan virus. It runs a 10% - 15% mortality rate in humans. This tick-borne illness crap has gotten WAAAAY outta hand.

SPRAY DOWN, FELLERS !!!!!!

Re: FN Mauser HeavyLoad 04/18/24
Well I went ahead and picked it up tonight after work.
It did still have the factory grease on it. I started cleaning it, the chamber was loaded with it. I still have more to do. I need to take the bolt apart, it looks like it’s packed.
The trigger is long and heavy so I might have to do something with it. And I don’t know if my eyes will be able to handle a peep and small bead may have to drill and tap for a scope.
I have a stock deal in the works so things are falling into place nicely.

The left coin was given to me by my best friend.

It was the second boat he was on.

The right coin was given to me by my mentor in the fire service.

They mean an awful lot to me.

Re: 260 Rem or 7-08 Rem....Why would you pick one over the other? Bugger 04/18/24
I have or had 7TCU, 7 International, 7-08, 7x57, 280, 7mm RM. Some of these I have several. I have 7mm bullets on the shelf, molds for cast. I’ve used 7mm’s on different game including pronghorn, whitetail and elk. With cast bullets smaller game. I have used the 7TCU and the 7 International on silhouette.

I had a 264 - the only 6.5 I’ve ever owned. I sold that about 1973 or 1974.

It only made sense to me to go 7-08.

If I were to start from scratch I think I’d still go 7-08. But either would be good. What are you going to use your rifle on?

It boils down to, you can't be good enough, or do enough good things, or abide by any laws, enough to please God and get into Heaven on your own. The ancient Jews had hundreds of laws, and most people have trouble keeping the Ten Commandments, much less hundreds. The Old Covenant was not eliminated, and Jesus spoke of many of the truths written in them, but He became the conduit to God and nothing else was needed. Jesus came to fulfill the prophesy and to be the final sacrifice.

Re: 7mm-08 rifle with longer action ? Rossimp 04/18/24
Just for perspective and utilizing the 284 Win to its full performance capabilities, F-Class shooters load 180 gr and 190 gr bullets with BC at .725 to .840 with COAL at 3.235” to 3.275”. Trying to squeeze top end from a 3.0” action will still prohibit many projectiles and never achieve overall top performance.

Today most would conclude/concede that the 284 Win somewhat resides in no man’s land. Those who load it to SAAMI specs have a respectable game getter somewhere between a 7-08 Rem and a 280 Rem, but far short of its capabilities when housed in a std .473” long action bolt at 3.235” COAL. Same set up as a 6.5-284 Norma.

Re: Help for a "sticky" action: 96 Mauser Idaho_Shooter 04/18/24
There is no trouble telling where the bind occurs.

It in the first two inches of bolt travel, at the rear of action. 2/3 open position. It binds (locks up hard) on opening and closing strokes. Far from the position where compression of the striker spring begins.

Now, exactly which part of the bolt is doing the binding, is another question.

At this point, I think the old girl is headed for the dumpster. Figuratively speaking.

Anybody need a tupperware stock to fit a 96? Or scope bases? Weaver style.

Re: What is the best medicine to put on a chigger bite... scoony 04/18/24
Ok for all of you that recommend clear finger nail polish, how does that help exactly? If you think you’re suffocating the chigger? News flash! Once it starts to itch, that chigger is long gone looking for its next meal.

I tried all the various remedies over the years. The best thing to do is to clean the bite site and refrain from scratching it. One thing that seems to help clean up the bite and heal it faster is actually over the counter acne medication, either in cream or pads. It helps to clean out the junk that the chigger left behind.
