Re: Even a blind hog........... Idaho_Shooter 04/18/24
Time for an update.

The old 96 action binds terribly. It is probably a write off. But I really wanted the 3-9 wideview accu-trac from it anyway.

The 700 in 7 RM looks nearly new. The barrel is pitted a bit, but the lands are fresh. As soon as I finish working up loads for it, it will go to live in the Son in Law's safe.

The real jewel of the three turns out to be that 722 in 257. It turns out to be a 722B with upgraded walnut and checkering.

From what I can tell, the 722 bdl was made for three years. About the same time I was born.

Someone has smeared some kind of varnish all over the stock. The checkering now looks to be pressed rather than cut. I spent several hours today scrubbing spilled varnish from the metal. It finally all came off.

No alligator skin in the throat. The lands are 90% plus. There are a few small pits down through the bore, but I doubt they will be problematic.

What can a guy ask from a 70 year old working rifle?

I got the bore cleaned up and dosed it with UBC.

I finished it up by mounting the above mentioned Redfield wideview 3-9 accutrac. A 70s scope on a 50s rifle. A match made in heaven.

Even if I torch the 6.5x55, I came out rosey on this deal.

Let's just say that until the communists have no more use for them they can live comfortably here with their perceived sense of "winning" against the evil conservatives. You know, the ones that set up the country that made it possible for them to be successful.

One thing is for sure, Trump was the vehicle that channeled and consolidated their pathology.

It was the perfect storm- Decades of communist indoctrination in schools, colleges, and state and federal agencies, culminating with a flawed narcissist turned politician that loved everything America stands for. Finally, someone every little commy can agree to hate! And hate they did. At a level never seen before. Like all communists, they offer no positive, productive, helpful solutions to anything. They only suck blood off the host until it dies.

So now the communists have seized power of the most productive country in the world. Conservative Americans foot the bill while the communists rework and weaponize the entire federal apparatus, support and import our enemies, and arm the very people that would kill us dead given the chance.

That meme the other day about "this is what illegitimate govts look like" or something to that effect with the troops and razor wire surrounding the Whitehouse said it all.

Cogitate on the 2024 election all you want, but the American dream may have ended for good in the last election. We can always hold out hope but considering the left has had no one charged and imprisoned for all their atrocities, why would you expect a different outcome in 2024?

Gotta love West ByGOD Virginia. Frontier less than ten air miles from the state capitol can't get the landline phone static free and our "high speed" internet is about 3.3 megs upload on a good day and sub three most days that it does actually work.

As rare and unique as the old iron target 32s were and are, they take on a special place for those who appreciate them.

"Magnumitus" and manufacturing proclivities have left us with few 32s to latch on to.

Good to see some of the good ones get a few of the few.

Re: Heading on a Hog Hunt Thursday in Winnsboro TX MartinStrummer 04/18/24
Shudda been with me today!
I'm out turkey hunting. I've got a shotgun loaded with #8's and #9's!
About 75 yards away, a thicket comes alive with pigs!
Four sows about 200# each and about 20 piglets that would fit nicely on a grill whole!
They finally fed off to the west. An hour later, I decided to haul my crippled butt back to the truck.
Probably 70 yards from the truck, the same sounder of sows and piglets appears between me and my truck.
I slipped my .40 S&W out of my turkey vest and began to whistle and yell at them! They finally spooked and ran off!
Glad I didn't have to go hand-to-hand with that bunch!
