Since you want to bring this up again battue, the 30-06 is the best compromise between lightweight and recoil. Funny thing is the 308 has more metal in it, which actually makes them heavier than an 06. I tried the 308, but just didn't care for it at all... The OP's rifle looks like a beauty though..
