I'm going on a backpack hunting trip in August and I'm looking for some lightweight trail/camp shoes for the trip to give my feet a rest.

Any recommendations?

You mean you want something to wear in camp? Or something to wear on the trail?

Crocs are awesome to hang out in after a day on the trail and they weigh nothing.

Crocs are great. I switched to some sort of "water sock" thing after I lost a croc in a water crossing. They work better for water crossing, but don't dry as fast as crocs, so they are not quite as versatile as a camp shoe.

I was thinking more of a lightweight trail shoe I could put in my pack when I'm going along more gentle stuff and save the boots for the rougher parts.

Though crocs and water socks are a great idea to have along.

I just picked up some Topo M-ST shoes that look like they should be perfect for a camp shoe, and would work great for a light trail shoe, as well.

Merrell Jungle Mocs or Merrell Moabs

Salomon makes some nice light trail runners that you can usually find on sale somewhere. The non gore-tex variety keep your feet light and airy on hot days on the trail.

I've been researching this myself and I've settled on New Balance Minimus. Look for the Trail version. They are lighter and more functional than crocs.

I have some Topo shoes too. They are nice. They are made by the founder of the Vibram 5 fingers shoes. Minimal and comfy.

Another + on the Topo's

I just looked at the topo shoes Web site. They look really good. But for those of you that have them, how do they handle the water crossings? Are they mesh or are they a padded fabric?

Mine dry quickly.

Mine dry quickly too and they aren't a very thickly padded shoe. I've done a lot of water crossing in them though.

I have the MT shoe

Check out the columbia powerdrain or drainsock shoes. Crazily light but actually supportive. I bought them after seeing an article in backpacker. Great water shoes, dont come off yr feet, i even took them to belize to wade in on fossiled coral and to avoid urchin spines- that did tear them up but they still work

I have the Moabs.

Out of the box comfort and (light) trail ready.

I have a pair of Keen sandals that are great for what you want. It's the light pair, all nylon with neoprene padding, but still have the rubber toe guards.... Use them for kayak camping where I haven't found anything better. I love my crocs, but they stink on hills... Especially when wet on riverbanks

This and get the ones without holes...which are hard to find.
