I'm gonna build a 1911 and was wondering where I could find a lightweight commander style frame?

I don't know of anyone who offers aluminum frames only. That's a real point of frustration for me. I have heard that Caspian does a batch from time to time, but I've never seen one.

There are some 80% aluminum frames that are going around that are pretty darned good. An example can be seen here: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/stealth-arms-80-1911-lower-receiver?a=1747831

I picked one up at a gun show, and for the most part it's a very nice frame. These are made from billet, 100% milled frames. The only flaws I can find are:

- The hole under the grip panel is cut just a smidge too far forward. Some grips that are on the smallish side may not completely cover that hole on the front edge. Very minor issue if you ask me.

- The radius on the inside of the trigger guard is missing. The inside of the trigger guard is flat, not radiused.

And that's about it. Everything else is first rate.

To finish the hammer and sear pin holes must be drilled. The slide rails must be cut, and the barrel bed must be cut. I built up a frame to be a dedicated .22lr for my conversion unit. Took just over an hour on my mill at home. These are .45 frames only.

Even in 80% frames, I have yet to see a Commander frame. The Commander frame would need the dust cover cut back and the frame bridge is about .010 farther back on a Commander.

Caspian is still a good option, so is Remsport. I wouldn't be surprised if Fusion used Remsport stuff - a lot (most?) of the 'custom' shops do.

Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense.

A Caspian titanium frame would be the first frame I would consider.

I have a titanium frame on a 1911 built by Christensen........the frame rails are coated with tungsten carbide to prevent calling of the Ti.

It's lighter than steel by a lot but night quite as light as an aluminum alloy frame.

I didn't know Caspian was making a Ti frame........are they coating the rails too?

It's funny how I read that there's no inflation these days. Had a BBQ last weekend, picked up a watermelon, it was 12.00!!! I about passed out!
