I meant this to be the non "glamour" game. No Big Five, Mount Nyala, bongo, LD Eland, Menilik's Bush buck and that sort of thing. I'm thinking more of game that you can take without a $50k safari.

My list has Chobe and Limpopo bushbuck on it. Mountain Zebra and Vaal Rhebok.

How about you?

Tiger fishing. Been needing to do this again and get some time set aside and dedicated for it .

I've actually sorting out some details on this now, or just recently. Seems like a Houseboat rental on the Kariba is the ticket. But I still have yet to find a house boat to live on with a skiff to fish from. It's coming........ I know lots of people in Africa!

Ha Ha..... never saw this coming huh!

I think it would be great fun to go to the Karoo region of SA, with my .257 Weatherby, and take a grand slam of Springbok!

The Karoo is just THE place for your .257 Weatherby. Long shots and some days lost of wind. No cover to stalk effectively so the game can see you from a long way off, ...and they know why you are there!

My Zambian buddy Johnny Du Plooy has taken me down to Kariba on a houseboat just for an afternoon of Tiger Fishing. They hit bait like a hand grenade. Big fun that I'd love to be able to do again and for more than one day.

Ingwe,

So "E.T." is at the top of your list now, huh?

I don't really have any more African big game I really have a super-desire to hunt, but until had done relatively little bird hunting--probably the most on our Namibian trip together. Got the chance to go on an all-bird safari in RSA in 2013 and pretty much got sated. It was even better than my two trips to Argentina, because of a wider variety of upland birds.

Roan is not a super desire...but it IS the stuff of fantasy.... grin

I spent all my money getting the 'super-desire' stuff wink

Truth be known, I wouldn't mind an all varmint safari.......

Black-faced Impala (pure strain) - Namibia

This is one of the animals I covet the most. It is only found in Namibia and cannot be imported into the U.S. To me, the last point doesn't matter, I would still hunt a trophy ram at the word "GO".

(To be clear, they are on license in Namibia and perfectly legal to hunt but USF&WS will not allow the trophy to be imported.)

My wife wants a weird list if she goes again.
She's already got a caracal, impala, zebra, and blesbuck.

She wants:
1. ostrich... so she can make leather out of it for purse and boots.\
2. warthog... just because.
3. Genet- cause she loves cats.
4. honey badger... because of that crazy youtube video
5. porcupine... because they're cool.
6. a 2nd impala

In Cameroon, the local staff loved to eat porcupine. If we'd see one, they'd jump out of the vehicle and whomp it with a stick and bring it back to camp.

I really enjoy hunting gemsbok and eland and would not pass up another kudu. I would love to have a free range lioness and another tuskless.

Can't think of anything I would want to hunt in Africa today that I didn't take before the cost of hunting down there went out of sight.

I really miss the days when landowner friends in South Africa would toss me the keys to a baakie and ask me to go out and shoot the meat for a braai.

All that changed when what I like to call the South African Outfitters' Protection Act was passed, making it illegal for foreigners to hunt without a PH and a contract with an outfitter.

While I was fortunate to have killed many of the major antelope species of southern Africa on my own, without having to hire a PH, the other species were taken at a time when $1,000 would cover the government trophy fees for a buffalo, kudu AND a sable!

Given the relative ease of the hunts, buff and sable are high on the list, will book some years out and book the physically tougher stuff like Dahl and goat first. Tough to beat a BC hunt IMO....

In no particular order:
-cape buffalo (cow)
-eland
-black wildebeest
-zebra
-waterbuck
-springbok
-blesbok
-warthog
-bushpig
-nyala

The "list" is ever changing; I never really thought about eland or nyala until I saw them in the wild on my first safari. Offer subject to change without notice! grin

Ed I watched a Goat hunt from BC on TV this weekend and it looked incredibly difficult. I think it would be a great hunt/adventure but for me a hunt that tough is only a distant memory. I hope you make it happen. Bev

Yea I'm slowly coming to realize that I may never make it over there. I've taken a Gemsbok, several Oryx,a blackbuck and many Axis back home in Texas but I'm really wanting to try Africa. I'm thinking for me that it's likely that ship has sailed!

Kudu, gemsbok, impala, springbok, eland ( either Cape or Livingstones) and a host of other critters are still widely available at good prices through Namibia ( my first choice) or RSA.....
A good package can be put together for 10K...plus travel and shipping of trophies.

Nothing yet. All my efforts have been to no avail, despite the booming popularity of Namibia as a Safari destination.
I truly don't get it...at least a couple flights per week during the busy season would fill up....

And I'd be on one of them!

Wasn't sure I'd make it back but finally decided on a Zim safari next month. The list is not too long
Nyala
Bushbuck
Zebra
Impala - if we spot a good one
At least one warthog
Undecided on a giraffe

Fascinated by those spiral horns
