Got a .264 win mag a while back. It is a 700 Remington action in a HS Precision stock. Barrel is a 26 inch Shilen match grade select, no.4 contour with a 1 in 8 inch twist. Also has a Shilen trigger and Sako extractor instead of the tiny Remington factory one.
Tried it with Remington 140 grain factory loads, not too impressive 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards off a benchrest. Just got a set of dies and a bunch of Winchester new brass. What type of bullets do you guys recommend for shooting of deer size game? I have had good luck with Nosler partitions in the past but there seem to be a whole new crop of high ballistic coefficient bullets on the market now. What about powder? I hear good things about Retumbo in the .264. Hoping for some feedback from .264 guys who have already developed good loads. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY FEEDBACK.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a Partition. High BC bullets for 99.9% of all hunting is a matter of selling sex appeal, and absolutly nothing else.
I used US869 and IIRC some 4831.
Unless you refuse to do anything other than nuclear velocitites, a 120gr hunting bullet will very happily put down any deer known to man. The 140gr bullets are built for very heavy game, up to small whales.

I've had good luck with US869 and heavies in the 139-142 gr class. 3,150 fps with great accuracy is pretty easy. Need to try the 142 ABLR which I just got my hands on. The 139 Scenar is one slippery bullet.

The .264 I have likes H-1000 and 127LRX. It has a 26"bbl and with Norma brass I am just shy of 3300ft/sec.Probably the hardest rifle for me to work up a sub 1" load. Now if I do my part it will consistently shoot .50" with the above combination.

Mine likes Retumbo,68 grns. 140 Berger VLD, WW brass, Fed 210M primer.3180 FPS.

This load is safe in my rifle, so work up to that.

Thanks for the replies. I like the 140's in part because I figure the lower velocity may extend barrel life. Plus the fact that I may get to take her moose hunting at some point.

Retumbo worked the best in mine with 130 gr Swift Scirocco's at 3200 fps from a 24" barrel. With the 140 gr Accubond and Partition I worked up to Hodgdon's max of 63.5 gr for speeds in the 3050-3070 fps range in the same gun. You should expect a bit more speed with a 26" barrel, others load the 264 WM much hotter but mine did well at those speeds and I know they were safe. When I first got my gun built I tried both Winchester and Remington factory loads, the Remington wasn't bad but the Winchester was awful. Earlier this year I ran a bunch of the remaining Winchester loads over the RCBS Casemaster and some of them were just terrible, the ones that were seated straight though grouped nicely.......

The guy I purchased the .264 from said it shot best with bullets seated .050 to .060 back from the rifling. Seems counter intuitive to me as you would think a smaller jump would be better. Where do you guys seat your bullets in regard to the rifling?

I usually have good luck with 7828 in my 264. 65g is about max in mine with a 140. Clocks around 3200fps.

I bought SSC7828 to load with, backed into a case of Noslier 130 gr accubonds and it shoots so well Im wondering if I should bother reloading, My gun was an unfired since the WP stamp at factory late 59' model 70 so I baby the gun, heck I walk each 100 yard shot so as to not overheat the barrel.Less than 10 down the tube and first hammer drop on whitetail was a neck shot freezer buck. I was very impressed with accuracy and performance of the accubond.Before the accubonds I was and still am a huge BT lover, Ive found them very accurate and bang flop on whitetails... Im kinda hooked on 3000 ft/sec . I have a pre 64 .257 Roberts project and plan on using 110 gr accubonds. very best winpoor

+1 with 120 Barnes ttsx or 125 nosler partitions. (I like the ssc version of 7828)

Re-33 with 140 nosler accubond, 50 thousanths off the lands shoots bug holes for me at 3165 fps. (26" Douglas barrel)

Actually I like shooting and do a fair bit. Just wondered what other shooters use in the .264 as I have never owned one.

im running R33 and 140 bergers in mine @ 3270 under 1/2 moa. my best group was .128 but fps was way too slow.

My 264 loves 125 Partitions pushed to about 3300fps by 7828. Puts 'Em in the dirt pronto.

WC872 and 130 ABs for 3350 FPS out my rifle, but it's got a 28 inch barrel.
130 Bergers hit 3400 FPS w the same load.

Will be running some 142 LRAB's over RL 33 today just to see what it does. 26" barrel on a Model 70.
