My boss texted me yesterday:

"When you get a chance, look up a town called Ruidoso, New Mexico and tell me if you would like to live there."

Not sure if he means me, him, or both. (He's always threatening to get back in the field)

Seems to be a sleepy little resort town that's outgrowing it's resources (this is just from reading on the internet. Not sure). But for my line of work (commercial refrigeration) there's plenty of work and a somewhat low cost of living.

Anyway, I'm not ready to relocate right now, just seeing what some of you close to there think.

Where do you live now? Comparisons mean a lot.

It's one of the best towns in Texas.

My wife and I stayed there for one week during an antelope hunt two years ago. The locals were very friendly. More so than anywhere I have ever visited. I ran into a couple of guys that had relocated from Kansas. They are very happy living in Ruidoso.

Lived there and in the area for quite awhile.

It's a nice town. Cool in contrast to S. Texas as far as temperatures.

Touristy. Expense of living is more because it's in the mountains, has a ski resort, and lots of tourists. Lots of hunting on public lands around there.

I like the area.

Nice town. It's relatively small, with no major city very close, so air travel will be pricey.

I'll be there in September for a Gary Allan concert.

Great place, as others have said. Starting July, they get rain showers almost every day, and besides weekends it's a sleepy little town with good restaurants, Walmart, good grocery store. Lot's of West Texans own property there.

I may volenteer to go help out for a week or two to check it out. Being single with no kids has it's advantages sometimes. If not for my 76 year old mother, who I would like to stay somewhat close to, I'd probably already be packing.

We used to visit when we lived in Midland. Not a bad place but I could never live there.

It sucks. Don't go there. Forget you ever heard about it. Don't even think of bringing your dogs and quail guns.

Rick, this thread needs to be shut down NOW!!

It's beautiful around there. High elevation, 7000' if I remember right, so it's cooler than most of New Mexico. Mountainous high country.
