My old man killed truck loads of Bucks, Bulls and Bears with the 180 grain Corlokt out of his old 300 Savage. Now a days I load 180 Hornady RNSP for him, and he still is pretty amazing.

I started out with that bullet in my Rem 760 .30-06. It served me well but the 150 Core-Lokt gave me more dramatic kills. I still use the 180 CLRN for certain applications.

I couldn't tell you how many deer growing up I shot with 150/170grain Core-lokts in 30-30 but I've shot all of one deer with Remington factory 30-06 180 grain roundhouse Core-lokt. It was a doe whitetail, that dressed out at 135lbs. Nice doe, absolutely hammered her at about 30' in heavy popple. Total pass through, in a very less than optimal spot. She went all of 12' and it looked like a couple gallons of red paint were tossed on the trees and ground. I was very impressed. Now I use Winchester Super X (Powerpoints) exclusively in my rifles because that's what my Great Grandpa used his whole life in his only two rifles, a 22lr and a 30wcf. I'm 35 and the older I get, the more nostalgic I get (red & black plaid wool, iron sights and I even found NIB felt boots and rubber over shoes). But, if I was to switch to a different ammo it would be Remington Core-lokt in flat and roundhouse variety. Thanks, Justin

The 180 CLRN was my go-to load out of my .300 until it was no longer available. Bad medicine on whitetails. 'Never had a deer run more than a few yards. Most were DRT. Very important where we hunt in Pa. as if a deer gets moves away after being shot on the first day, there's a good chance someone else will be hanging a tag on it.

They work well in my 308. They're all I use in it anymore.

I shot nine or ten of the first dozen or so deer I killed using this bullet, mostly because that was what the local hardware store stocked in .30-06 in those days. All were one-shot kills. I was shooting Texas whitetails that are about half the size of your New York whitetails. It wouldn't be my first choice today, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it again if that was what I had with me. I see no valid reason to not use it as your whitetail/bear load. I think that you will like it.

Anyone chronographed the .30-06 factory stuff?

A couple of years ago, I chronographed a variety of factory loads for several friends. Although the .30-06 180 CoreLokt was not among them, all of the Remington loads in my samples were pretty much as advertised. I would be surprised if that one would be any different.

The rem. load cronied 2600fps from the 18.5" barrel of my m7600 carbine. thats better than ive been able to do with my handloads.

THANKS Autofive. With the 180 Federal Power-Shok I'm getting 2509fps 5sht avg from my 17"bbl .30-06. So I'd probably get about the same with the RNCL ammo.
