.54 cal with extras. anyone know much about these? local guy has one for sale with some extras. is it worth it?

I'd want to do a conversion to 209 primers, where to find a kit?

Any 54-cal inline makes a good investment. But not all can be converted to 209 primer. Here is a link beliow for a breechplug that fits LK93s. But there is a hitch involved here and Knight's website states in this link below that.....

Im not sure why the orange discs are even mentioned. LKs never used the orange discs. LKs use the red jackets and always have used them for 209 conversions.

The last LK93 i bought in 54cal cost under $150. It was in mint condition. Ive seen many of them sell for well under $200.

There are two versions of the LK93 54cal 209 conversion kit. One is for 5/8 Pre 1995 and one is for 11/16 Post 1995. All 50cals used the same conversion kit. They were all 5/8 plugs/plungers.

LK's are nice no frills guns. I own a bunch of Knights, many plunger rifles...mostly MK's, and I do have 1 LK. Personally I have gone back to #11 ignition on all of them. There is no real advantage of using 209's imo. If the price is right, go for it!

Also, they shoot very well with 240-260gr saboted bullets over 90-100gr powder. Pyrodex is my choice in the plunger guns, many folks like regular BP or 777. I like RWS caps, they fit tight on the nipple and never misfire.

do you have a 209 conversion for the lk by chance? if so I would be interested in it!

I went ahead and traded a brick of .22's for the rifle, a 1/4 lb of powder, some bullets/sabots. a copper powder flask 2 measurers (one clear, one brass) and a capper tool. along with a smattering of brushes tips and patch cleaner ends.

think I made a good deal?

everything came in a camo bag, when i got home my wife told me it was a thirty one bag. she seemed excited, so I gave her the bag. I dont know what a 31 bag is but i guess she does and I got cool points for it.

I have two LKs in .50, loaners for hunts. Bought one new-unfired, for $150 in stainless.

Picked up a second one for $60 with a forgotten load in the bore. The seller fully disclosed that the bore was rusty and corroded, a "parts" only rifle. The interesting part was after pushing the load out, and a few cleaning passes, the bore looks pretty much like new, no pitting, and very clean.

I've converted both with the Knight kits to the 209 red primer. My only advise would be if you find the conversion kit for sale, buy it then.

I found several kits when I first searched, waited a bit, and they had sold out. Took several months to get back in stock.

Are you asking me if I have a conversion kit? I don't, actually sold the last one I had a couple weeks ago. I've shot Knight plunger guns for over 20yrs... the #11 ignition is flawless. I honestly don't see a single advantage to spending the $ on a 209 conversion. They aren't any more accurate and still have blowback. Now if you were gonna shoot pellets, well probably a 209 would probably be more consistent, but I've always shot loose powder.

You can buy the conversion kits directly from Knight, but they ain't cheap. IMO, no way worth the $ they want for it. It'll be over $80 with shipping I'm sure.

If you convert, you need to make sure what size Breechplug you have. Most have 5/8, but some of the .54's had 11/16.

The .50 cal conversion kit is 5/8, and will work fine if your gun takes 5/8...the cal doesn't matter, just the bp size.

I found several between E-bay, Gunbroker, Midwayusa, Cabelas, etc. Then waited for the right sale, and ordered when they were back in stock. Finally paid about $65 IIRC.

Agreed, buying from Knight was the last choice based on price and shipping.

I sold most of mine for $50 shipped, used but like new. I guess that was fair. ? Knight wouldn't be so bad to buy directly from if their shipping was reasonable.

I would not go with a 209 in the Knight plunger guns either. Percussion caps are fine with Triple7 2FG or 3FG powder.

I use pellets in my other guns so I was planning on it with this one, but you guys are right, why fix something that aint broke right?

Loose powder will give you the option to better fine tune your load. Maybe the gun shoots better with 85gr, or 95gr...etc. Can't go there with pellets.

For the #11 caps, I recommend RWS 1075 if you can find them. They are hot and a smidge smaller which makes them nice and tight on the nipple.

I recommend RWS 1075 also. When buying your first full jug, I recommend real blackpowder there. Goex is usually the easiest to find. Schuetzen and Swiss are a step-up, as is FFF, which works great in sidelocks and offers a wee-bit more bullet speed, along with cleaner burning.

I dont cast but MMP makes a 54x50 sabot. The Speer 50cal 325gr hp is the bullet Knight used to ship with 54cal rifles.


If you want a good cheap bullet, MidwayUSA sells the Rainier 50cal 335gr hp for about $21/100

One of the best premium bullets is the Barnes 275gr. The 325gr Barnes is good too if you can shoot them faster. Its a fairly long bullet and need more speed to stabilize.

Did you try pulling the trigger when putting the plunger back in?

Ditto what Overkill said. Make sure the trigger assy is in first, then w safety off pull the trigger while pushing the plunger in. Should pop right in.

The Speer 325gr unicor #4495 is a great bullet. They are tougher to find right now, but if you do they are an excellent bullet. Use with mmp purple 54/50 sabot
