Went to the big city today to see what I could scrounge for shooting supplies. Not much available, truth be told. Got a couple pounds CFE223, some .243 105's and a box of .308 130gr TSX. Anyone try this bullet in a .308 and have a load to suggest? I haven't had much experience with Barnes, anything I need to know that different than loading standard lead/copper? Hoping it shoots these bullets well and will be a kind of all round big game load for me. Got Varget and some other powders here too, if that helps.

Work up with Varget and start with a seating depth of 0.050" off the lands, and tweak from there. There likely will be no tweaking needed...

I don't know if it holds true for all barnes but I have found the best accuracy at top end loads. Plus they seem to work better on game the faster they go!

I use 4895 and have even dropped back to the 110 grain TTSX in the .308. ~3100 fps and seems to kill as well as the 130.

I don't have my notes in front of me, but think I use 49.5 g for ~3050fps in a 22 inch barrel. The key was seating them deep as Jordan wrote. At .020 the were just okay but really tightened up when I seated them deeper.

Tipped version, but I've found little difference betwixt the tipped and non-tipped concerning accuracy. Obviously OAL will be different. 48.5grs TAC CCI 200 130gr TTSX Lapua Brass OAL 2.76 3085fps 4 shots from M7 that I had the original barrel replaced with a factory takeoff sporter contour and cut to 21".

I "borrowed" Steelheads load but substituted Winchester brass and primers. From a Winchester 22" EW I get right at 3050 fps.

How well does the 130 grain TSX perform on game? Especially mule deer.

What's your 300 Savage load for the TSX? 44.5grs of H4895, that's for the bolt action. I knock it down to 42-43 for the 99. The bolt shoots just like the 308 load, just a little slower.

I been loading 51 gr varget (compressed)with the 130 ttsx .080 off the lands in a Kimber Montana. Load is right off the Barnes site. Velocity right around the 3125 fps range.

Thanks guys. I'll try to get some loaded up this week, hopefully with both Varget and CFE223. Good to know about the seating depth, as I generally seat them out to the lands. If it'll shoot anything like SH and the others are seeing, I think it'll be worthwhile to buy up as many as I can find and use it as an all round load. If I can't connect with the bow on elk this year, I'll probably be carrying this gun and load, provided all goes well. I think it ought to be sufficient.

I borrowed this load with similar results for my .308. Though I think my accuracy was a bit better with 48 grains. But still right at 3K fps in my 20" barrel rifles so whats not to like.
