For M193:

"The average of the mean radii of all targets of the sample cartridges, fired at 200 yards, shall not exceed 2.0 inches. "

This is a good group of threads to keep saved:

10 shot groups or maybe 2 shot groups; I find that 2" radius pretty hard to believe. Out of an as issued M4?; human shooter or mechanically fired?

Good link; thanks.

Mean radius is comedy different than extreme spread (which is what most use). While you can not compare the two, in general the extreme spread (or group size) will be at least 3x the mean radius.

For statistically relevant groups sizes, M193 is at best 3-3.5moa ammunition. More often it is 4-6 MOA. Greentip (M855) has varied with time, currently it is held to 4.5 MOA, with waivers up to 6 MOA. 855A1 (EPR) is currently doing around 2-2.5 MOA. Mk318 Mod 0 is averaging around 2 moa. Mk262 Mod 1 is under 1.5 MOA.

It can be sad, but seeing that they spend very little time teaching folks to shoot, a more accurate platform really would not pay off for most.

Projectiles are usually one of the places you need to spend the most money in an accurate load... they don't, FMJ is usually the type projectile that its not possible to get to MOA with.

For Mil-Spec, the accuracy requirement needs to match up with the doctrine being employed by leadership.

For Precision shooting, a 2MOA mean radius is not especially desirable. But for Fire and Maneuver, moderate dispersion can be preferable when used as massed suppressive fire.
