I built an AR15 in this caliber for my girls to hunt with because i really like the idea of a 30cal bullet in a 223 recoil. It has been a very good rifle that both my daughters killed there first deer with. The oldest got her first when she was 8, doe at 30yds. The yougest last year at 6yrs old killed a 9pt at 114yds. Put in for some special youth hunts for them( and as much or more for me cause pretty sure i was more excited about them shooting a deer than they was) and hopefull both of them draw out. My oldest will be 10 soon so with only 1 300blackout rifle i decided to try one of the bolt guns. I put a 1-4 power scope on it so the eye relief is awesome from 1"-9" and there not trying to peak through it. I bought a few boxes of the remington umc 120gr otfb to plink with and sight it in. Had it on in 3 shots then shot a 3 shot group at 65yds, was blown away at the accuracy of it. A dime covered all 3 shots with room left. My daugter hit the bullseye at 65yds also. These are very impressive rifles for the money, will probably put a can on it soon. After the girls shot it, had my nephews shoot it( 7 and 8 yrs old). They dont get to shoot to much but after talking them through it they also got the target killed. Here is a pic of the youngest nephew. I couldnt be happier with this rifle.

I love mine. Can't wait to get a can on it for deer hunting. It will still be "loud" as I will hunt with supersonics, but will be more like a 22 out of a long barrel.

I'm really pleased with mine as well. Tide Jr. shot his pig at the Campfire hunt last March with a 125 grain Ballistic Tip. I can't remember the exact distance, but I'm thinking in the neighborhood of 75 yards or so. Got complete penetration through the porker's head and a DRT performance.

I did drop in a Timney trigger that I picked up from 7x57 Steve. I like it a great deal better than the factory model.

Hope de doesn't pull the trigger with the barrel pointing that direction or you'll have a dead tailgate. smile

Yea i am a firm believer in dry fire lol/ had him snap twice and show him what the results would have been if it would have been a live round and also helps with the flinches lol. Wish i got to see my nephews more cause it isnt really fair letting my girls shoot at the same targets.

I like mine so far. I had to pull the bolt apart and clean/reassemble as the firing pin was binding and it was not going bang every time. After that my last 50 rounds have gone off without any problem. Accuracy is running 1.5-2" at 100 with the 125 gr BT over 18gr of OLD h110. Can't seem to find any new powder that will work with this combo, so I might break down and see what some factory loads will do. I bought this to use as a treestand rifle here in VA, so I will try the 110 gr barnes.

vabowhntr,

Go over to;

And look at the bolt-action loads. You'll find several powders. With the semi-auto/ar-15 load data, the Loads are geared to getting reliability as well as being subsonic.

It looks to me as if, performance wise, the 300 AAC/Blackout falls somewhere between the 7.62x39 and the 30-30. Is that correct?

I'm asking because a friend asked me to recommend between the RAR-RR in 300 AAC/Blackout and the RAR-P in 308. I told him that the 308 would be easier to find and cheaper to shoot, since he doesn't reload, but he hasn't bought either yet.

260Remguy,

For comparisons sake... looking at my load book for the 300 BO, I'm getting 1,930 fps with SP & FN 150's, 2,200 w/ Nos 125 BT's & 2,330 w/ Barnes 110's. I am at or near max. book loads with those.

The main reason for the 300 BO of course is the subsonic aspect, that aside they re-define the carbine or truck gun… if you haven't already find & shoulder a RAR Ranch Rifle, If all of that plastic doesn't repulse you I bet you'll take to it.

That said… For a non-reloader the 308 RAR Predator is probably a better option due to ammo availability and probably cost too. I've got one and it is quite accurate, I've only shot two 4 shot groups at 200 yards (the RAR Predator has a 4 round magazine), both had a flyer (probably uneven pressure on the flimsy stock?), even so 3 of 4 shots were at or under an inch.

My RARs are all Predators, no Ranch Rifles. At least as of this date.

My truck guns will all be Marlin XS7s in 243 once the last two arrive from the wholesaler.

That said, the RAR Ranch Rifles do look to be a handy length. Are they the 21st Century's evolution of the lever action carbine?

Got an update on the little RAR compact 300 blackout. My 10yr old daughter smacked a big spike with it at 65yds using remington hog hunter 130 gr ammo which is barnes 130 gr tsx bullets, quartering shot placed 6 inches behind shoulder and exiting in middle of other shoulder leaving a quarter size exit hole. He was dead right there. I told her when she killed a deer with it she could have, she reminded me of it today lol.
