RRA predator pursuit upper on the lower of your choice with a PSA lower build kit with SSA trigger that was on-sale for 199 bucks last week.

Threw on a Magpul fixed rifle stock and pistol grip and it's good-to-go.

of the 3 listed, SW without a doubt for me.

Though I've seen some DPMS ones shoot really well lately...

My one and only AR is a Smith and Wesson. I'm very impressed with its' accuracy and reliability.

My dad has a budget DPMS and they are decent rifles. They shoot pretty well out of the box. My Stag seems to shoot better, we've all shot it and shoot it better than the DPMS. Little brother has a S&W and it handles about the same as the Stag. My personal preference is still the Stag. Never handled a Ruger.

I can only speak to the DPMS. Had one and it shot great, maybe one hiccup in the year I owned it. Traded it for an M1 Garand. I don't think I would think twice about another one. But I've had good luck with all the AR's I've owned.

What are you trying to achieve with the rifle? I think you'll find most entry level AR's are going to go bang every you shoot them and be reasonably accurate. If you are after better accuracy, the recomendation of a RRA predator persuit upper and the least expensive lower you can assemble is good advice. Conversely getting a stripped lower and a basic kit you can put a rifle together for ~$600.

Using a stripped lower and parts kit I am into a complete lower and stock for $180. Now for a $300 upper from palmetto state armory it will be a total under $500

Good question. Mostly tactical(defense)yet worthy of yotes. Is there such a thing? smile Mostly at night. As you can tell I don't know shiitt about AR's I'm sure it will end up somewhat more spendy than I want but I'd at least like to get started.

I'd appreciate any help. Would like to see pics with part descriptions if anyone is willing. Just the little I've read here I'm ready to slowly build. Feel free to PM if anyone wants to.

Not better but I don't think it would be a lesser build. Uses dpms parts.

As long as the main parts of the gun are decent, you won't have issues typically.

Even for a house gun, in fact I don't have a factory AR and I have at least 2 ARs....

to me accuracy is a must, so a good barrel. For you thats not required really.

Good lower parts kit from reliable source, White Oak Precision is my choice when it really might matter, if not RRA has been fine. No particular reason other than we've done a lot with RRA and rarely had any issues.

GOOD bolt and carrrier, again see above for source.

Beyond that its assembly and thats hardly rocket science.

Oh yeah, for those not doing standard 20 inch uppers, make sure your gas system/port/buffer etc... is all matched properly and life will be fine.

OTOH a factory of any mentioned won't be shabby, though I"ve yet to be impressed with Ruger accuracy locally, but I've only seen 2 shot so far and one was a piston gun.

This one was right about $600 as pictured from Palmetto. Complete lower $149, complete upper $299, BCG and charge handle $100, plus a Pmag. It weighs right at 6 lb.
