First day for residents to apply is next Monday, July 13th. The allocations have been cut in some units.

Non residents get to apply 2 weeks later.

Good luck in the draw,

Dale

DMAPS are already on sale if you do them. They go pretty fast in areas closer to towns.

Some of the changes make absolutely NO sense.

Added a HUGE section of last years 5C to this years 5D, and only upped it from 18K tags to 24K tags.

They added Evansburg State Park into the 5D now.

I've got my envelope all ready to send out Saturday morning...let's hope it all goes well.

Funny they would change a unit. When I questioned a PGC biologist on the units and how they were formed/allocated permits from the counties. He stated it had to do with geography and farm/woodland ratio. I am very critical of PGC, and when one watches the inconsistencies in their policy it is hard to give them a fair shake. The individual folks I talk with fine and we are friends with a local biologist who is a great person. The policymakers are the shortcoming. Sounds familiar, it is government after all.

I used to live in Montgomery County right on route 113 which is the new dividing line between 5D and 5C. I think it used to be 202. 5 years ago, there was a pretty significant difference between the 'city' side and the 'country' side, I can only imagine it has gotten more different in the 5 years since I moved.

I suspect access and hunter success rates, not to mention available land are the driving factors in the tag allocation process for that area.

Dale-I won't be back this fall, but what's the status on the CWD up in our area? Are you putting in for your doe tags up by the farm, or elsewhere? Good luck this fall buddy, and I sure wish I was coming home.

I sent in for Dad's area today. Next round, I'll try for one here in Somerset. That one might be a bit tough to draw, they cut the # of tags for this area. Hope to have one for the late flintlock season.

No change in the CWD up in Clearfield/Jefferson county areas. Still only captive deer that have tested positive there.

They expanded area 2 in the southern part of the state, they found some wild deer along I 99 with CWD and the protocol is for a 10 mile buffer from any positive location. So the western edge of that area is about 10 miles east of me at home. The area I've been hunting is outside the zone so no changes for me this year.

While there is a huge difference in the 2 sides, they added a pretty substantial amount of land, including Evansburg, but only added 6000 tags...I just don't know how they're going to get the numbers they want out of it.

From my limited understanding, it was not the recommendation of the "boots on the ground" guys to only go up 6000 tags. The boundaries aren't a huge issue for them, but the recommendation, as far as I know was to add a good amount of tags to the mix.

There are so many deer here it's ridiculous. The only difficulty comes in trying to find someone willing to let you hunt their property.

Sent my envelope out Friday night, they should have it sometime today or tomorrow at the latest I'm guessing.

I don't live anywhere near there, but doesn't Evensburg have DMAP tags if it is overrun with deer?

I don't believe so. If it does, I've never read about/nor heard about it.

I wouldn't hunt there during gun season if it meant I had a chance at a 30 point buck! Drove by there 1 day last season and it looked like a serious pumpkin patch.

Plus, Evansburg might not be overrun with the deer, but the rest of Delaware county is. Montco as well.

Didn't buy a license this year.. The camp may sell, and I decided hunting dove and quail in Az. is more fun than the mess in Pa.

Best of luck..

3C here, I think there's 35,000 tags available. If I send in my permit in the first round there's usually no problem getting one.

You can check online to see if you got a tag and also how many are sold/available.

PGC website says I was awarded one for 2E. Looks like 2H is about sold out but it's a small unit and not many tags were available. Lots left elsewhere.

Wonder how many will be left for the next round, I hope to get one for here at home to use during the late flintlock season.

Got mine for 2E, and bought a DMA2 tag in case I kill a buck in archery. That will allow me to take a little adventure, and still hunt a doe during the first week of rifle, when its buck only in 2E. Might put in for a 2D in the second round just to increase my options of killing a doe.

Chester County has been the all time worst at this process.

My FIL sent in Friday afternoon, and to this day, has still not been awarded.

Man, I feel sorry for guys up there. That seems like a lot of work just to shoot does. I guess you have to do what you have to do. I'm only about 2 1/2 hours from you in Maryland and we can shoot 10 with a shotgun, 10 with a muzzle loader, and unlimited with a bow.

Not that I want to let the cat out of the bag or anything, but in 2 hours you could drive to the Frederick area and hit some of the public lands and shoot doe's to your harts content. During gun season, the parking lots are full of PA vehicles. It might seem far, but I used to drive to the eastern shore to shoot geese all the time.

Realize you are telling the truth, however the situation is different up here and we have already proven you can almost wipe them out with our license sales and too many Doe tags.

Not all that difficult. Pick out your unit, fill out a simple form, place in a return envelope with $6.70 and send it off. Most people get one. Some counties have unlimited tags. Of course they are close to metropolitan areas and permission can be hard to come by. Not unlike the farms on the Eastern shore.

Admittedly I've seen a couple hogs down on the Eastern shore that will rival big Bucks from anywhere.

I have too wonder how many of those Pa hunters take a shot at a doe. I used to bow and rifle hunt deer over at Indian springs when it was still a lottery for doe. The first day of rifle season there was shooting all day. The last time I was down there for the first day of rifle I heard 3 fast shots around noon and that was all I heard the whole day.
The night before in the camping area I was talking to a guy with his grandson along. He said "There is plenty of deer here. I shot 9 during the early muzzle loader season." I asked what he did with all those deer and he told me he donated them to some food bank. Wonder what he told his grandson the next day?

I sent my families apps in to Delco on Friday and had our 3C tags back by Wednesday. I hope there are enough 4C tags for us to get some on the 2nd round.

No doe shooting in 3A for the first week should save a pile of deer for next year. I wonder how much of a financial hit the PGC coffers will take with all the NR hunters that won't be buying tags?

Hopefully the population has a quick rebound with the changes.

I didn't realize that 3A doe season was moved until I saw your post. I got my first round doe tag for 4D where I live. I may have to rethink if it's even worth getting a 3A doe tag since I usually only hunt up there the first two days. Really need to get some bear and coyote hunters in the area we hunt in 3A. There seems to be more and more of them around and less deer.

My first 2E tag arrived about a week ago, I've got another one coming from the second round but it's not here yet.
