Can't remember the code that was read, but that was the cause.
I have:
1. replaced air cleaner 2. replaced dist. cap and roter 3. replaced plugs 4. replaced plug wires 5. run Seafoam through vac line 6. run a tankful of fuel w/ Seafoam 7. 'will' replace fuel filter
Just filled the tank. MPG = 29
It seems to have solved the performance issues. 2 questions-
1. anything else I should address? 2. Can I clear the CEL by disconnecting the battery?
This is a 2wd 4 cyl ext cab Taco.

I've got a obd II, if you'll be coming throught town I'd be happy to clear it. As I recall there is a way to clear the codes without a reader but you'll have to google up on the how to.
On the rav I just got for my son it was running a bit rough and down on power. Sea foam, new set of plugs and some fuel injector cleaner seemed to do the trick. The plugs were definately gone, one had part of the insulator cracked off.

Appreciate the offer, but I ain't driving the Japanese coffin that far! it's a '95 and has OBD-1. I think it requires a different reader.

I don't think disconnecting the battery will do it, but I think Toyotas will reset after a certain number of on/off cycles?

If you've got an O'Reilley's locally, they'll let you use their readers to reset the codes for free. I think Autozone does too.

Most times they will read the code but say they can't legally clear them. Tom

At my local O'reilley's, I give them my driver's license, they give me the reader. I plug it in read and clear the codes, and bring it back to get my license.

NAPA didn't have a reader and O-O-O-O'Reilly had an OBD-I but it had 'issues' and wouldn't give up the code. Alyeska read it for $23.
I'll try the battery route when my son lets me have it for a while!

You didn't mention how old your Taco is, but if it's more than 10yrs old, I'd replace the spark plug tube seals...........or whatever the seal kit is called that includes a new valve cover seal and four O-rings that keep the oil from entering the spark plug area. The kit isn't very expensive.
My 4cyl Taco started to lightly miss on one cylinder so I replaced the plugs and wires. While pulling the plugs I noticed oil was starting to seep in around the threads of one of the plugs.

It's a '95. When I pulled the plugs they looked fine, but changed them anyway. Thanks for the tip. I'll look into that.
