My Mother worked for a company in Fairbanks from 1954-1956. I believe the company was named Northern Commercial. Are they still in business?

Alaska Commercial Company is the same company, several hands changes later. They are now owned by Northwest Company International, a Winnipeg-based outfit that operates stores throughout rural Alaska. People have a love/hate relationship with them. They do keep cabbage (produce) stocked in remote places, and fresh milk (ultra-pasteurized) - which people love, but hate the $10/head and $15/gallon prices that come with it. $3 for a can of awful overcooked vegetables also seems a bit steep.
So yes, and no. Northern Commercial is no longer around, but the company still exists under a different name (just not in Fairbanks.)

The Kodiak store closed just a few years ago, too.
