Fished the second leg of a 4 part tournament'The King of the Oak" saturday out of Point Breeze Ny.Conditions turned tough after last Wednesday's big NE blow screwed up water temperatures. We pre fished friday running all over trying to find fish we were out as deep as 660'and in as shallow as 80'. We just couldn't getting a program down
Largest fish we caught Friday was a 13lb Laker, couldn't get on the kings.
Saturday morning started with torrential rain and thunder storms.Things let up as we launched at 5:30am.
Without finding fish the previous day and no place to target I went with my gut and ran down the lake 15 miles.
Things started slow,1 small steelhead not worth putting in the box.
Then at 8:00 am the fish I was looking for finally hit my doctored up homemade lure. After a 20 minute fight a nice 20lb king was in the net!
We did another small steelhead and lost a decent one after his acrobatic leaps. A 5 lb brown I decided to thow back and things slowed.
I made the call to fish for big kings till 11:00 am and if nothing change programs again.
At 11:00am with only the 1 fish in the box and needing 2 more for the 3:00pm weigh in I pulled rods up and motored another 5 miles down the lake and set up with my lake trout program.
I told my crew fishing cut off was 1:15pm as we had a 20 mile run back to port and then needed to get the boat out and be in line bt 3:00pm.
We picked up a double pretty quick and put a 10lb and 11lb laker in the box.
We caught a bunch more and landed a 13.5 lb fish for the upgrade.
With 2 minutes left till my self imposed cut of another double. The second fish was a 15lb laker so another upgrade to our box!
The lake was flat so the 20 mile run took us just over 45 minutes and after getting the boat on the trailer we arrived at the weight in station at 2:30pm.
Our box totaled 48.02 lbs with the king weighing in just a tick under 20lbs.
We ended up finishing in the money and in 3rd place for the day and moved up in the over all standings from 6th to 3rd just 4lb off the overall lead. 3rd leg of tournament is Aug. 15th.
I'm fish against some of the best tournament teams and captains on all of lake Ontario
This weekend we fish another tournament the Sandy Creek Shootout there will be close to 50 teams in this event
