It is a 30-06, made in 1950. I still have the original barrel sight in a little flannel pouch. The guy that I got it from was a doctor and set the gun up for hunting with the Stith scope and base. I don't think he ever hunted it, it is nearly mint...

I had a like new in the box Weaver Classic 400 for a few years. It was brighter than my leupold 2-7 vari-x ii from the early 1980's.

Those old Classics had great glass for their day.
Hope you enjoy yours.

Thanks. It looks brand new. I like it. Looks like Buehler mounts too.

I like the Lyman All-Americans with the Perma-Center reticles. Here's three:

An older Lyman, pre-Perma-Center. Post and Crosshair reticle. Mounted on a battered, but cherished .270 M70

Hello shrapnel,

Your Stith scope is also made by Kollmorgen, isn't it?

I have two rifles with 3-9 Redfield Lo-Profile scopes that are sentimental favorites and an old10x Lyman All-Ameican that isn't sitting on a gun right now.

Not Schrapnel, but the scope on the Winchester 70 appears to be a Kollmorgen built Stith branded scope installed via a Stith Master Mount.

Kollmorgen built 26mm diameter tube scopes for Stith and when Redfield bought the Kollmorgen's scope business, they initially continued the "Bear Cub" line with 26mm tubes, before transitioning them from 26mm to 1" diameter tubes. The 4x and 6x Stith Bear Cubs were available with internal windage/elevation adjustment and without any windage/elevation adjustments, the so-called "straight tube" style, that required Leupold or Stith adjustable mounts. The Stith Master Mount on Schrapnel's Winchester 70 is an adjustable mount.

While they are very uncommon, Weaver make some "Stith" branded scopes somewhere along the Stith line. I have a Weaver built Stith 4x that looks almost exactly like a K2.5 or K3, featuring a straight, rather than a belled, objective. It is the only one that I've ever seen and came to me from Nick Stroebel's personal collection.

El Paso built steel tube Weaver K-8 on my Ruger MK77/II in .22 WMR

El Paso built steel tube Weaver K-4 on a sporterized 98 Mauser in 8x57

Bausch & Lomb 1.5x-6x on a Winchester Model 70 rebarreled to .358 Norma Magnum

Not as dated as some, but not NexGen...

2-Redfield Bear Cub 4x32 1' tube from the Seventies. The Denver Refields. Duplex original reticle. Great scope, also!
This periods Redfields are, IMO, among the best fixed scopes made in USA.
3-Zeiss Diatal DA 4x32 from 1973. Reticle N 1 German, non centered reticle. I bought it new. 26 mm tube. A great scope!!!
4-Zeiss Diatal ZA *T 4x32 from the Eighties. Reticle N 4 German, centered. IMO THE BEST ZEISS SERIE SCOPES EVER MADE.

All of these work perfect in every way.

I have a vintage Zeiss Diatal 4x32 on a LW M-7/Brux fast twist .22-204 and a 10X Diatal on a 722/Hart slow twist .22-204, both duplex. The Zeiss duplex is very easy to see, even in dim light.

Those are great scopes. You can sometimes find one on Ebay.

This one for sure.

It's a 1916 1899 Short Rifle, scope is a Lyman Alaskan with a post and crosshair. Also got a couple other early Weavers on '99's, a Weaver K6 on a 1950 vintage Remington 721 and earlier Leupolds on our Browning B78 single shot 7mm's.

Several low power Weavers, 1x, 1.5x, 2.5x and 3x, Leupold 3x and 7.5x, Redfield 2 3/4x PCH and a 12x, Lyman All Americans 2.5 and 4x.

Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

I don't think the burris has ever been in the woods I am now looking for another one in 3x9

I like those old burris scopes too. My 4x has nice glass and the adjustments are probably as precise as any scope I have ever owned. Frankly it is brighter than the M8s I have owned
