I am looking for a good pair of 10 X 42 binoculars for deer hunting. I would like to limit the price to under $500.00. What would you suggest?

Vanguard Endeavor EDII. Amazing optics, appears to be solid build quality.

I would say either the Vanguards mentioned above (even the original ed's are a great deal) or Bushnell elite ED (not the e1 model)

Thinking of trying them.

I have not used them much, just fiddling with them at my friend's gun shop where he stocks them. Ergos remind me of the Swarovision. The focus on the one I played around with a few times was a little stiff, but it could very well smooth out over time. It's every bit as well made as the Viper HD, and optics appeared every bit as good, maybe a touch better.

+1 to the MeoPro HD above. I think I'd make a $500 offer and see what happens.

Not mine,

But those kahles 10x42 for $425 on the classifieds are a steal.

You might check out the Cornell Lab reviews as well. Download the full review list and the top picks pdf's for lots of info on many binocs. In your price range, the Nikon Monarch 7's have had very good reviews. I checked our a pair last week at a lsg store and am tempted to go that way.

I just picked up a pair of Nikon Monarch 5 10x42. They seemed to fit what need just fine. I only got 30 years out of my last Nikons.

I would recommend the Nikons mentioned, both the
Monarch 5 and 7. They are both very nice and will
serve you well. You can also check out the Zeiss
Terra 10x42.
I have owned and used models of all of these, they
will work well for you.

Steiner Predator Pro's are a good bino for the money. We bought my dad a pair from Cameraland when they had them on sale (I think somewhere between 2-250). I wish I would have gotten myself a pair as well. Their site now says 299.

My brother has the Zeiss Terra's. They are ok and have grown on me a little more than the first time I looked through them, but out of the two I would go Steiner and save the money.

I am still kicking around a smaller pair but wonder if anyone has seen or can comment on any of the following brands :

  • Carson
  • Snypex
  • Styrka

Carson has an ED 10x42 for $260ish. Seen only limited reviews but very favorable.

I have been looking hard at this for a while now and my safe bet would be a Monarch 7.

Zen ED3 10x43 (open box from Doug @ Cameraland) or the Vanguard would be my picks.
