When they wear the rug like it were drapes.......
Saw a pair like that years ago, from a long ways off...thinking sow and cub...then realized the the “little one” wasn’t and the huge one was stalking it.... funny stuff (not being a bear anyway)!

The back one does look big-ish.

no expert, but the bear in foreground looks like a very good sized juvenile bear to me
the one in the back is a keeper though
any bear that gets in the high 8's or above squared is a pretty impressive creature.
the true mid 9's to 10 footers, no one has to ask, "is he a big'un"
they are a helluva animal
lot of muscle workin in a 7 foot bear
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.

10-4
The head, face and ears are markedly different between the two bears.
It's a lot easier to tell when they are side by each.

Not sure I would call the smaller bear a juvie... not big of course, but more than 3 or 4 years, IME.

bad choice of words Art, not meant so much for age as body
glassin bears and seeing one like that near coastal areas I'd dismiss that bear as not a shooter or as I'd tell whomever I was hunting with " did you come here to kill a juvenile delinquent?"
he looks like a well fed kid to me
but I'll defer to your experience with those critters.
I've seen more bears than most guys, but you ain't most guys.

Well, Phil might be along shortly and ask how I missed the milk on his lips and I would have to just look at my boot tops...

The bear in the foreground is a mature female. The bear in the background is a mature male and appears to be well over nine feet.

My call would be a 9 1/2' boar and an 8' sow.

The effect of a telephoto lens can contribute to the image of the 2 bears. Not that the back bear isn't bigger, but the image can be deceiving. I noticed this when photographing different things under different conditions and angles. The first picture of the 2 binoculars are of a Leica stacked directly on top of the Swarovski. It makes the Swarovski look bigger, yet the Leica are noticeably bigger in the second photo. Bears and binoculars are 2 different things, but there is always something about the magnification, angle and the resulting image that can affect the look of the picture...

My call would be a 9 1/2' boar and an 8' sow. Yeah, like you live out there and see them non-stop! Oh, I guess you do! I would take your call to the bank and just shuffle my feet a bit. The head looks fuller than I think of when looking at sows...
