Savage nuts, these old 110's are some very nice handling, shooting, and well-finished rifles. You guys owe it to yourselves to check them out.

Jim, about to wring out your old 270. Mounted up a Bushnell LRHS 3-12 30mm. Did you shoot this old girl at all, if so, with what?? Kinda lookin forward to it. grin It's all fun and games right?... laugh

Top gun in photo, before the scope swap, followed by the 243 and 22-250-

Going to concentrate on the 110 Barnes ttsx first. Great performance reviews out to 600 yards, drops off after that.

Nice Roy, Keep the fire burning for the early 110's. They're gonna be appreciated like pre-64 winnies eventually, and you'll be able to retire on your hoard.

Got a couple of those, they're greatly underappreciated.

Well crap, there you've gone and let out another secret. Now 110s will get as pricey as 99s! Just kidding a little bit. How are the trigger pulls? Older 110s are known for being accurate rifles that were somewhat compromised by their not so desirable triggers.

The oldest ones like these have a three screw trigger and can be set to be good triggers IMO. But I had to get help from a gunsmith member on the fire to figure out the relationship of all the screws and what sequence to set them, they're a little complicated! Lots of guys with the newer 110's seek out the three screw triggers as replacements for the later two screw setups.

Someone else may be able to shed some more light on this.

Target one. Sight in. RL 15 powder, Barnes 110 ttsx bullet. The 52.5 gr load went three into <1/2". I've got another grain or so to go to max, and I'm hoping it tightens up as I go up. Seated about .055" off lands.

I didn't know about the two and three screw triggers. How do you know which rifle to look for short of taking one apart?

I knew once, but I don't know the cutoff line on the three screw triggers now. Stinks getting old! I look for the old style stock and metal features of the early rifles. So far those have had the three screw triggers.

Savage made their cost cutting measures in 1960 on 99's, but on 110's I think the three screw triggers held on to 1965 or later. The 22-250 is 1965 and it's a three screw. Of course, it could have been retrofitted so who knows.

Very cool. It's always good talking about more than 99s - though I'll never understand the lure of the 24!

Blew another 40 rounds tonight looking for the magic. 4 different seating depths, 3 different powders. Not real scientific, just fishing to get lucky. smile No improvements over the original loads.
