I just ordered some to play around with. Anybody use these on deer? If so, how did they perform?

Are you sure? I don't see any 130gr 308 bullets on Sierra's website.

Yep, go with the flat base. Besides often being more accurate it gives you better bullet contact with the case neck. And the 130 '06 round isn't what we think of a a LR setup, so no real BT advantage, IMO.

I've used 130 gr. Horn. on WT's. Great bullet, quick kills with good blood flow from both entrance and exit wounds. For that size game, the 130 in an '06 is hard to beat. I don't see the advantage of heavier, slower '06 bullets for light skinned big game when the 130 will blow clean thru a WT, leaving a path of destruction along the way.

Here's a 130 Council in an '06 showing how much is in the neck when the COAL is adjusted for max performance. Haven't used the Council on WT's, although Ralph says they work well on game, even if his stuff is considered more for bench rest than hunting.

125gr Sierra Prohunters are really good bullets. Accurate in my 30 cal. rifles.

I didn't go look it up. A 130 with a BT would be hard to load, for sure.

I do use heavier .308 bullets, am gonna try the 155 Scenar in my .308 Broughton/Classic Kimber. But for WT's and hogs here locally, the 130 will do what it needs to do. It shoots faster with less recoil.

Years ago when I shot competition some old guy who was really good was shooting 125 gr. Sierra bullets because of the light recoil for 200 yd sitting rapid fire.
He was a High Master so I figured he might be onto something.
I loaded them in my wife's .308 Win deer rifle and she never wanted to try anything else.
Last year my son used his mom's rifle and it was a bang flop. What can I say?

I shot them for years in my .30-06, but mainly for chucks..

One year I had access to a small ranch for mule deer.. Time was short as I was still working.. I loaded some 125's in my .300 WM over I4350.. Dropped a nice mulie in his tracks the first morning.. Also shot many coyotes with that load..

If I used my 06 much for wt deer, it certainly would make a fine load.. Just remembered when we were in college my roommate shot a huge whitetailed buck with a 125 Sierra out of his old 06.. Had them loaded for chucks, and just used it for deer.. Did a super job.. We all thought he was foolish because everyone knew 180's were deer medicine..

To me, for WT's, etc., 125/130 gr. bullets in the '06 are sleepers. They can be very accurate, they shoot faster than heavier bullets, and from what I've seen, fully penetrate a WT's chest with impressive tissue destruction, good blood flow from both wounds and quick kills, mostly DRT.

Seems 150/165/180's are more popular than 125/130's. The lighter bullets may actually be the best performers on thin skinned big game. If a given bullet will punch thru, maybe a heavier one isn't needed.

I use 130's in my '06 in food plots where 200 yds. is a long shot, 125-150 yds. most common. It is a slick cycling HVA with 20" bbl., very handy in a box blind. This gun shot Ralph Council 130's into a one hole, three shot group, target posted earlier.

I'm wondering if the OP ever figured out that there is no such thing as a 130/308/GK.

Saw the match to that rifle in the Kalispel Montana Cabelas last week. If I hadn't been so far from home and with space at a premium it might of followed me home.

It sure is a sweet little gun.
