cookies cleared, damned mail still flashing. is there any way to get rid of it?

I have it too, wish it would go away.

Open your mail. When you 'leave', go out using "my stuff" instead of back arrow.

If that don't work, just follow down here in the basement, seems to be a blinking mailbox post at all times from someone.

What do you mean - flashing? What are the symptoms?
What OS? What Internet Service Provider? Is it E-mail or G-mail ?

What computer, desk, lap, android, book, hand held device ?
What capacity, gigs, speed, other ?

Is it hard wired or wireless?

Where is it used? Home, outside, business ?

What's the history, old computer, did work OK before?

What protective software ?

Have you tried clearing your browser's cache and cookies and re-starting it?

Have you tried performing the task in another supported browser or on another computer to see if it behaves the same?

Have you tried both the Standard, and Basic-html (http://mail.google.com/mail?ui=html) versions of Gmail to see if anything changes?

Have you tried temporarily disabling your anti-virus scanner to see if the behavior changes? Don't forget to re-enable it after the test.

Have you tried disabling any labs features you are using? You can do this for all of them at once by using: https://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0

Have you tried disabling any browser add-ons or (for browser's like Firefox) running in Safe Mode? Have you tried disabling/deleting any browser toolbars (like Bing, Yahoo, etc)?

Have you tried disabling Settings->Offline->Offline Mail if you use it?

Have you tried disabling Settings->Buzz and any other additional products associated with your account?

Have you tried going to Settings->Account->Browser Connection and tried both types: http and https?

Have you updated your browser to the latest version?

Have you verified that your system date and time are set correctly?

Have you tried deleting and re-installing Flash and Java on your computer?
