I started a thread about needing a new scope, but it is not working. Maybe someone who knows a lot of brands can tell me if there is a scope less than 20 ounces with at least 20 feet field of view on the lowest magnification setting and at least 20X on the top end. Anyone know of one?

Canazes9, A thank you. Thanks for the link. I purchased four of them and am no longer impressed. I have been on BING and found one scope I will try. But I'm still open for suggestions. Most new brands are about 28 ounces.

Ringman, I bought one of these to put on an AR. It's a little over your weight limit, but it's a compact scope, and of course, the optics are very nice. I've not yet had the opportunity to do any low-light shooting, but I believe it will come through and prove itself to be one of the better low-light scopes you can purchase without spending $3K to $7K. Based on my Bushnell bore sighting grid, the reticle tracks true. I'm still buying parts for the AR. It will probably be next month before I can get the cash to buy the remaining needed components.

This thread should work better than the one two slots down..good thinking!
Already on to new hubbles, and here i thought you were still looking for a powder. Progress?
PS, 20x aint near enough for a guy as "experienced" as you. How you going to see the fork on the next dink, or whether the poor bastard youre scoping has buttons or zippers?
All considerations..tough choice.

Look at the March 2.5-25 hunting series. 21.5oz.
If ounces are a deal breaker, load one less round in your magazine.

jimmyp,
Thanks for the links. Both of those are about 50% too heavy.

RHutch,
I like your idea, thanks. I will BING up the March and check on them. By the way, I only run two cartridges in the rifle.

mathman,
Just finished looking at several scopes on BING. The March looks good, very good. There's lots of good words about them on the 'net. But $2,150 is pretty steep since I quit working. I will to try to sell some stuff. In the mean time I may get a Monarch 3 5-20X. If it beats my 4200, it would be a keeper.

Fireball2,
Not a hijack at all. I checked the Bushnell products. They are a little heavy and only go to 18X. My Bushnell 6500 4 1/2-30X50 (23 ounces) requires 1X less to show me the same detail as the Swarovski z5 5-25X52 (18 ounces) during day, but in low light it punks out. I mean it is so obvious if a cloud covers the sun the Swarovski is better. Even my 4200 4-16X40 (18 ounces) beats the tar out of the 6500 in low light.
Now if the newer 6500's have better coatings I wouldn't mind one if I can't sell enough to get the March. That is if the Nikon doesn't do what I want. The Nikon is only 19 ounces. I love to save money on toys.

Is there a "good enough" point or are you on a quest for the best?

Fireball2,
I want the best for the least amount of money for my eyes. That may be the March and it could be the Nikon. The Bushnell 6500 punks out in low light so it is not in the running at this time. The other brands are too heavy.

Rich, I have the Bushnell 3-12 LRHS mounted on a .270 and shot my first loads today. When I get it running good, take it out and check it out and see how it works for you.

Thanks for the kind words.
I think I took that picture around 2012 in the rain season on my father's farm.
