My Remington 1911 R1 came today. I broke it down and punched the bore. It's seems to be well made. Everything I wanted and nothing I didn't. High Brass wanted one but was one to not spend money on himself and wouldn't let his wife buy one. After pondering on it I decided to buy one. I considered a Para but liked the looks of the R1 more.

I don't recall having shot one, but all of the ones I have handled had very smooth slide to frame fit.

Enjoy!

That looks like a fine 1911. Looking forward to your range report.

I handled a Ruger 1911 and I didn't like the beaver tail grip safety. The original grip safety feels much better to me. I had a 1911 made in 1919 with no collector value (then) and traded it off. High Brass fussed during our last weekly Sunday talk about that trade. I had no idea how much he liked that pistol so much but he was in jr. high then. I had forgotten how good a 1911 felt in my hand.

I really like these guns. I've set p a half-dozen, by various makers, exactly like that. Iron out the kinks, combat accuracy job, install high hardball sights and double-diamond grips.

Range report when you can, please. A R1 Commander is calling my name...

Looks like a good 1911 , let us know how well it functions . If i was you i would toss the magazines and get some Wilson's or McCormick's

I like the flat mainspring housing more than an arched since I have short fingers. I set 200 rounds out for the range. 100 FMJ and 100 lead RN flat point. I broke it down and coated the outside of the frame and slide with Eezox. Took the magazines apart and treated them with Eezox inside and out too. Treating with Eezox you liberally coat the parts and allow to sit over night and them wipe off the excess that didn't soak in. I plan on getting some magazines in the future.

A well crafted 1911 is a thing of beauty.

this sure is the heyday for 1911's a cheap one now seems to run better out of the box than the Colts of around the 70's....been reading alot of handgun books while babysitting contractors the last few weeks and and pretty much across the board most didnt bother to even shoot their NIB Colt before shipping it off for reliability work.....gotta love good management(Colt was owned by several conglomerants during that period that just viewed it as a cash cow and put minimal money into it other than the military contracts) coupled with CNC machining grin
