That anti-vibe feature sounds like a wait and see for me. Quad four engine used a balance shaft... Quad 4s were a POS. Had a great deal of them with cracked heads, most of them cracked completely through. Other than that they were pretty good and smooth.

I'm not too eager to find out what the reliability of a new GM truck is with the new DEF technology. On class 8 semi trucks since 2011, 93% of all reported problems are related to the EGR/DPF systems. And many trucks are returned from the dealer with a "we don't know how to fix this".

So how would you deal with exhaust braking system with almost every town outlawing it except for emergency vehicles? I'm guessing there likely isn't an on off switch?

You might want to discuss that with John Pierce the next time you talk to him... Though IIRC he worked on airflow dynamics not structural design.

Well I applaud GM for giving it a whirl. But yeah, I'll be in the wait and see camp who knows they may turn out great. Its not like they haven't come up with some real dependable vehicles through the years. And its also not like as with most they haven't come up with some horrid pieces of schite. I don't think they've made a good small truck yet the S 10s and S 15s and recent Colorados were OK if you were lucky and that's about it. This new one with the diesel is a brand new design we'll see.

What most towns outlaw are compression brakes for diesels, otherwise known as Jacobs brakes or "Jake brakes". They work by using the engine's valve train. The dodge ram diesels and presumably the chevy colorado will use exhaust brakes, basically a valve in the exhaust system. People confuse the two but they're not the same, a jake brake is a lot more effective but also makes a lot more noise.

I don't foresee a diesel powered Colorado going into the history books as anything but a ginormous POS. Especially given the timeframe it's being released in.

I'd be a lot more excited if Toyota were bringing out a Tacoma with a diesel. Heck, I'd be ecstatic if Toyota just imported the diesel Hilux.
