A guy called me and told me he had a real good Argo (6 wheeler) for sale. He knows I have a Rhino and a 450 yami quad and claims the Argo will go anywhere the Rhino will go and then some. The Wife thinks I have enough toys for hunting and fishing but this did perk my interest. Can they really go where a S/S can go? I know they can go in water which the S/S can't. Are they good in steep rocky country and how noisey are they? Don't tell the Wife I'm asking or she will kill me.

Argo's are very popular in Scotland where they are used extensively for recovering deer carcasses.

Having been a passenger in one numerous time, I have seen them driven on ground that was considered to steep for quads..

Not sure how an argo stacks up against a S&S, but I would guess it has less ground pressure for a start.

That said, I would not buy a 6 wheeler as I believe they are simply too small...the 8 wheeler I the way to go and even that does not have a huge cargo area...

They can go where sxs or 4-wheelers dare not go. You will get there slower and take a no suspension beating all the way.

Thanks Dan, that lets the Argo out. That's why I switched to the sxs over the quad. At 78 my body can't take that kind of beating anymore.

We have 2 SXS's and an Argo 8x8 we use for hog hunting in the swamps... the Argo will go places that a SXS cant even dream of going.. but is a lot rougher ride. We kill a lot of hogs in bad thickets and the Argo will usually go right thru them. It is not a speed demon .. but when you come to a creek or slough.. you don't have to even slow down.

Argos are great for their intended purpose but stay on top of your maintenance (lots of it) with them or you'll walk a lot. They are maintenance queens like ALL 6/8 wheelers are.

Argos have only the low pressure tires for a 'suspension'.
They aren't popular in groups of guys where most have atv's because they can't keep up.

Keep the chains oiled and it is not as much maintenance as you think. We have been running ours for years.. there are 8 or 9 guys that hunt with us have Argos and other than the occasional bearing we have very few break downs.. some of those fellows Argos are on the second or third motor. They get used almost daily from December thru March.

Hmmm, 2nd or 3rd motor and "not much maintenance".

I ran Argo and Super Swamp fox for years and they didn't fit your profile of them. Not at all but ymmv.

I've wanted an Argo or Max since I first saw a photo of one in an ATV book I checked out in the 2nd grade. Machines have improved a lot since then, but I've still got an itch buried away to have one someday.

Argo's with tracks go almost anywhere.

Yeah, those tracks make a big difference. Remember the Trackster? Years ago I watched a promo video of one in use. They were running right over small trees and brush leaving a big mess in the hills. Their ad was a tree hugger's delight.

Why the question mark Krw708? That should be a statement of fact, not a question. I've been riding Rokons for over 40 years having had a '76 with a Chrysler engine, '98 with a Honda engine and an '06 with the Kohler engine. We have trees here and unless a guy has an open woods or road, a tight woods stops any ATV or side by side with four wheels. Rokons aren't that comfortable to ride, but nothing stops them. We rode 350 pound bears out on the back of mine, or two deer at a time, or one over the top of a beaver dam, or through a stream because they float, or down a deer trail, or just make your own trail. They aren't a snowmobile, but because they are narrow they don't get high sided like something wider with wheels. I've seen a you tube video of a guy driving over a picnic table with his. A real specialized ATV cycle to be sure, but fun.
