First off, let me say I don't claim to be a cowboy - I didn't ride at all in my twenties or thirties, now late forties I'm at it again, and I've been slow getting my confidence back.

My mare had never been shot off of far as I know, and she's been a little nervous and jumpy... I started shooting around her a month or so ago, on the ground, she flinched a bit but tolerated it pretty well. Yesterday evening I decided it was
time to see what would happen.

About a 3.5 mile ride to get the edge off, a couple bottles of liquid courage, and here we went. Ended up shooting 6 times all together, 22. Heck, dry firing bothers her worse than shooting.

I'll keep going, after the 22 it'll probably be 44 special and on to shotgun... may get put on my head, but I'll try to get it on video where everyone can laugh

A buddy and I pondered the question of whether the borrowed horses we were riding on were gun shy.... they were. 44mag in a alder patch is not the optimal place to find that out.

Worked out well for me, my horse jumped sideways into a patch of alders and could not get his hooves on the ground to buck too hard. Spent some time finding my friends gun, slicker, hat etc

Enjoyed watching that Jeff.

lol Dan, too funny.

I almost did a test run this morning (not while mounted). Wife and I have one with a wire cut we were doctoring this morning in a corral, with another cooped up in an open stall beside the corral. Looked up and saw 3 fox kits running around about 30 yards away chasing each other with one of the parents watching them. Had a rifle but didn't want to blast it within 20 feet of the horses while they were contained in a tight space.

I used to love to watch the foxes....until we lost 10 hens to them over the past year.
