You can't make this stuff up fellas.

Multiple sources in the Navy have confirmed that a Lt. Commander and one of the deceased marines returned fire on the Islamic Terrorist at the Chattanooga Recruiting Center using their own personal firearms.

Lt Commander Timothy White now faces charges for discharge of a firearm in a federal facility as well as disciplinary action for possession of a firearm on duty.

Killed in the attack were Marine Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, Lance Cpl. Squire K. Wells, Staff Sgt. David Wyatt and Sgt. Carson Holmquist. Navy Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Randall Smith died on July 18 from wounds sustained during the shooting.

All the indications I have from people pretty close to it say that this is not the case. Sure, the USN can goon it up, as they have so recently, but it doesn't seem like they will.

How do you say: "lets arm the military now that the Posse Comitatus Act is no longer", then create another crisis, stick a well thought of conservative politician out front giving "hurrah for our side" speaches and send in the Military to guard against terrorist, white wing radicals, ect. ect.
And the people love it so.

You obviously have no clue what Posse Comitatus actually says.

It was enacted after the end of the Civil War to insure that the army could not be deployed inside our borders to enforce the law.

Self defense on Federal property is not law enforcement.

There will be investigations into all the facts and circumstances surrounding everything that happened there. Likely a law enforcement investigation (NCIS,FBI) followed by an admin Command Investigation. These are required by the nature of the incident. All witnesses will be interviewed. Because he was in violation of Navy Regs by carrying, the LCDR will be advised of his rights pursuant to Art 31(b) of the UCMJ, similar to Miranda warnings. He cannot be compelled to make a statement.

This does not mean he will be charged. After all the investigations are complete, it will go to a general court martial convening authority, to make decisions regarding any alleged misconduct. No way will the Navy prosecute this. Even if they were inclined to take action, it would be handled administratively.

This is the kind of [bleep] that makes red-blooded Americans outraged. Talk about azz-sucking military leadership. As far as I am concerned, there are NO gun-free zones.

I've been out for more than 10 years. There's no way I could tolerate the BS today.

They should have either quietly picked up his gun or gave him a medal.

I really hope you are right. This officer did his duty, he went to arms to stop an enemy from attacking a military base and killing more US servicemen and women under his command. As an PO1 this is exactly the kind of officer I would want to serve under.

As the old saying goes:
It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. That appeared to be his options.
If he got a civilian trial, it would be a perfect time for jury nullification.

I have some connections to the Marine family there, some talk in the community that I believe came from good sources.

The dead Marine escaped from the building and retrieved a Glock from his private vehicle, came back inside and confronted the shooter. He was killed and a 2nd Marine picked up the handgun and continued to return fire.

Not sure where the gun was located that the Naval officer used, but it is believed he also retrieved it from a private vehicle.

The shooter did in fact enter the building. Initial reports I heard indicated all the shooting was outside the building.

It is believed the shooter was pretty high on something. He was struck by gunfire approximately 20 times before he was no longer able to shoot. He refused to comply and drop his gun and was hit with another volley of shots that killed him.

The person I spoke with was told the exact type of rifle he used. They are not a "gun" person and couldn't remember the details, just said "automatic rifle". Could have well been semi-auto. He did have "thousands" of rounds in his car.

I will see someone within the next week or 2 that will know a lot more details. He may be in a position where he cannot discuss it though.

Most people don't really want the truth.

They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

"they could simply issue a “local letter of reprimand” that would not enter into Lt. Cmdr White’s permanent personnel file — then immediately pin a medal upon his chest and fast track him for promotion to Commander."

Similar to the old story from the 'fifties about MCRD in San Diego. A civilian refused to remove hi hat during Morning Colors and was shot dead by a member of the Colors Guard.

He was tried at Courts Martial, found guilty, given a carton of cigarettes, a promotion, and transfer to a new duty station.

I really believe Col. West is overstating the situation.

At this stage, it is similar to what happens in Texas even in a clear-cut case of self-defense........ it is left to a Grand Jury to decide if charges are warranted.

It is in the Lt. Commander's best interest to have it adjudicated to protect himself from civilian charges, now or in the future.

Calm down, Col. West........ you may be needed later.

It's probably best I not mention how the Navy is phugking over one of my buddies on his pay and bennies in this thread.

Slaves get what they need. Free men get what they want.

Rehabilitation is way overrated.

Orwell wasn't wrong.
