I know Remington made Model 700 rifles with blackened stainless barrels. But, are the actions stainless as well?

If you are referring to he ones made some 30-40 years ago in magnum calibers, I believe they used CM receiver's with some kind of plating on the barrel so they could blue/blacken the barrels.

Thanks guys. I should have been more specific. I was thinking about the older rifles with plated barrels that RDF mentioned.

Makes sense that the actions were CM.

I think all of the SS M700s have an 'S' prefix in the serial number.

I could be wrong, but was under the impression that only the 1st year 7mm magnums were blued SS barrel only.

Man, I guess I will have to get my Remington book out. The old ones had some kind of iron oxide applied that allowed rust blue.

While the 7mm mags are the most common I've also found out the hard way in doing reblues that they also did 30/06s and 300 win mags. I want to say I've seen a 264 win mag too but I wouldn't swear to it.
