Great day at the range Sunday.

I don't remember sighting in my .38 Super when I made the new rear sight for it, but I guess I did. I brought a file to set everything right. I setup several clay pigeons against the backstop at 25 yards (they're 3 1/4"). Pulled the trigger 5 times and had 5 square hits...I guess I did sight it in.

I had some more clay pigeons set out at 70 yards. 4 shots, 4 square hits...Man, I was on a roll. But then I fired the next 4 shots with 4 near misses; aaaahhhh, back to reality. But the 9th shot hit. So overall, I was feeling pretty good.

My dedicated .22lr 1911.
I have a Kimber top half on an aluminum frame that was built up from an 80% frame making an extremely light weight full sized .22lr 1911. What's weird about it, I'd almost swear that it has the lightest recoil of any .22 handgun I own; just nothing.

Regarding 1911 reliability...somehow by some miracle my three 1911's managed to shoot several hundred rounds each and not malfunction...clearly there's something wrong with mine.

My 12 year old son had a BLAST shooting the Sterling carbine, he's much more into rifles than handguns.

Since I moved to NV I just haven't been shooting much; that was a chit-load of fun. Seriously need to get to the range more often.

Sounds like a great day.......and keep taking your son shooting with you. It will pay off for both of you down the road.

...any day at the range with a .38 Super is a GREAT DAY!!

I have both a Kimber .22 Conversion Unit that I mainly use on a .38 Super Stainless Target II and a Kimber 1911 .22. I think you are right about the lightest recoil...the gun barely moves.

As to 1911 .22s, I was at the range yesterday with a 1968 .45 GM that has a Marvel Long Slide .22 conversion on board...have to really work to miss targets...
