I love the Axis lock, and that blade profile in S30V should be easy to fall in love with. I've only used a gut hook once and it felt like cheating.
Happy Birthday Scott.

I ain't too manly to use a guthook if there's one around. Can't like one on the blade, but like this it's fine.

I'd always written the gut hook off as a gimmick for guys who didn't know how to run a knife. THEN I used one (a WY knife) and started thinking maybe I'd been missing yet another boat.
Every year I get lazier, and have been using a Buck Packlite a lot more the last couple years because it's so easy to clean up. Ergos aren't that comfortable for marathon jobs (at least for my large hands), but its very maneuverable and clean-ups are a snap, and some jobs involve animals that've been dead for long enough to build quite a lasting aroma. Boiling water and/or bleach is a nice option to have.
I've kept my Axis Lock BM for EDC use so maintenance means blowing out lint before adding a couple drops of oil.

Happy Birthday! I've been scoping out those Benchmade Hunt series knives for quite some time. I just haven't had a chance to put my hands one. Looks like a nice line up, I'll be looking forward to a review.
Enjoy the hunt while it lasts!

Wife did good! Benchmade Grizzly Creek, S30V She did great! Crazy timing. Yesterday I was looking at a liner lock I had made and wondering if it could be done with a hoof pick on the back side. This one is better than a liner lock and that would work as a hoof pick.

Obviously the gut hook doesn't lock in place, not that it's needed, but I don't know much about picking hoofs.
