Never really been a Ruger guy...but this one looked interesting..so I

located one (Davidson's) & had a local FFL bring one in..its the #6968

having the longer LOP than the compact model (6970)..so on to the

gunroom...take those ugly Ruger stickers off the stock....then clean

barrel(7 twist BTW)aftergood cleaning...then locate the bolt in box..

check it out..man thats a beefy sized bolt for a compact gun...4-5

patches later barrel is GTG...now pull the stock...trigger outta the

box was 4.5#...easily lowered down to 3.25#....stock V bedding blocks

look good...barrel is free floated...5/8"x24 threaded w/cap..will

install a flash hider mainly for muzzle/crown protection in & out of

truck...fit & finish is OK for a $420 rifle...my main concern is the

plastic rotary magazine...some guys complain of T3 plastic mags ? I

will be looking for a spare very soon...its not the old 10-22 style

good mag...have not cycled any rds yet...comes equipped with Pit rail

so I will mount a Stoner AR type mount along with a Vortex 2-8x32 HP

Diamondback (Thx Doug)...all in all it looks good...36" long & weighs

6# dry...got into the 300BLK with an AR..so I decided I needed a bolt

gun...the 300 BLK is a handloaders dream...more later when glass is

mounted & sighted in...Ruger guys...lets hear about your Ranch BLK

I bought one to use as a compact lightweight deer rifle in our area where I won't get a shot over 100 yards. I really like the way the gun feels and handles with a low mounted 2-7x32 vxii on it. I now have it shooting about an inch with 125 gr Sierras and 110 gr ttsx made for the blk, both with h110. Now the bad. When I brought it home it would not fire every time I pulled the trigger. I figured out it was that the firing pin needed adjusting. Now it works every time. Also, the crown had a ring of sharp metal right at the edge of the bore, almost like the cutting tool stopped just short of finishing the job when they crowned it. A few min with the brass crowning tool with lapping compound took care of that. Also had to lightly sand the stock to float the barrel on the left side. I was a little disappointed with the fit and finish on this gun, but now that these items are resolved I am happy and can't wait until the season to try it out.

I probably should have sent it back, but couldn't resist fixing these issues myself.

Loaded magazine with 4 rds....cycled them and they all ran good..

Going to check crown today...recrown if necessary....my buddy has the

jeweler's glass & brass tools..new scope will be here the 20th...so

gonna wait till then to sight in..have 110's from Nosler & Hornady..

along with 125 NBT's..140 Nosler comps...plenty of 165-168s..scored

on a keg of AA1680 last month...also having H110..IMR4227..etc..

Unless you are completely satisfied with the trigger, consider a Timney. I put one in mine and I am thoroughly pleased with it.

Overall, I really like the little rifle. I predict you will enjoy yours as well.

I've shot maybe 30 rounds of subsonic through mine with a suppressor. It's very quiet. Stuck a superchicken 6x on mine. I love it.

See my thread in the gun writers forum. I'm having good results with the Horn 130 gr and 19 gr of LilGun. Put a Leupold 2-7 on top and groups are amazing at 100 yds. Recoil is pretty lite.

Hornady brass is pretty thin in the neck. I have had a couple of neck collapses while seating bullets. Federal is better brass.

I've got a slight bit of pressure from the forend that I'll work to relieve this weekend. Don't see a reason I can't bring that into one hole.
Can't wait to pick up some high quality purpose built brass.
Irks me to no end having LC 5.56.

I bought ringworm's H&R 300 BO and it is more fun than a barrel full of monkeys. Shoots good!

I like it so well I'm thinking about buying a Ruger, too. I have read quite a bit about American's with magazine feeding problems, especially in 223's. Has anyone here had any feeding issues with their Ruger American 300 Blackout?

Here's a very informal group with my RARR BLK...picked up a Lee

collet die for the 7.62x39...this is the first test group from it..

yes...collet body is too long..but soon as my lathe guy gets home..

gonna shorten it to better size the 7.62x35 (BLK)..load was AA1680 &

Horny 110 V max...Rem 7.5 & LC case...dime is for reference only

target @ 100 yds...off table & rest....cold/clean 1st shot

Yes the Ruger magazine leaves alot to be desired...but works OK...

Just another RARR 300 BLK update....

Lee collet die from 7.62x39 will work....collet finger needs

shortened about ten thousands of an inch....

Pit rail vs Weaver style rail..Ruger has Weaver style rail..

Pit rail rings will not fit RARR rifle...must be Weaver style

Trigger spring clipped....pull is safely now down to 38 oz..

This is just FYI.........

Finally all pimped out...added Glade handle...

Vortex DB HP scope...weighs 7# 11 oz dry...

Great handy rifle...3 shots under an inch @ 100

remember its a Ruger....... grin

I have the 6970 model. Haven't had much time to play with it yet and have only shot factory ammo so far, but I like the gun. Wish it was lighter, but you can't beat the handiness of it.

I'm curious about the Glade bolt and the flash hider. The bolt looks big in the pic, but I'm thinking that it's just the angle the pic was taken from. Also, what flash hider did you use?

My AR shoots Rem factory scary good! 115 gr OTM's I think I will look when I get home. It is not cycling the action properly, it's a parts gun, I need to make sure I'm completely sealing the gas port then drill the hole if necessary but I hate to dink with it the way it shoots!

yes the Glade handle is big..2" long with knurled rubber handle

but the factory one is too small....here's the links to flash hider

you'll also need a crush washer to index/time the hider

yes mine is the #6968 with longer LOP......

Glade does make one 1.75"..same price $55
