A friend came over for me to help him do a full cleanup on his model 70. We notice the bolt raceway is galled up, looks like bad quality control from winchester. Anyways tthe gun cycles smooth and reliably. Not rough at all. But the tooling marks are just a sore thumb to look at. We talked about getting it polished up but what does everyone say?

Unless it really bothers the owner I'd let it go - since the rifle functions well.. Sounds like the rifle a guy pm'd me about earlier..

Considering that the bolt will only ride the highest points, if they allow the bolt to move smoothly, it is just cosmetic.
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.
