Finally convinced one of my buddies to drop some money on a nice rifle. He is the type who owns lots of firearms but nothing nice. Destined for deer and ground hog duty on his family farm. Stainless 700 243 ADL off Gunbroker $479 Bell and Carlson Alaskan 2 off Redhawk $249 BDL bottom metal off our boards $75 Sightron Big Sky 3.5-10x42 off our boards $260 Leupold DD mounts/rings $50 Lapped and torqued everything down. Adjusted the trigger down to a consistent 40 ounces. Hadn't shot it yet but for $1100ish it should be a nice top to bottom rig.

That's a nice set-up. I have one similar that I stole from a fellow campfire member a few years ago. I think I'm in this one about the same as your friend. Makes for a nice rig IMHO.

I have a Frankenrifle of a similar nature, and I like it a lot. The one you have there should be even better since Remington stainless barrels are often a notch better than the cromo ones like mine.

OM and MM, did you free float the barrel and or glass bed the action on yours?

I did bed mine, but decided to leave in the pressure pads/points Remington has in the front, I did sand them just a little though. Thought I'd shoot it first that way to see how it shoots - shoots great so left them in. This is a Gander Mtn Guide so its got the skinny contour mtn rifle barrel.

Corn hadn't been cut off yet but we were able to get some steel set up at 500 yards on Jake's farm. What a great way to get some practice and gain confidence in ones equipment. Launching 95 NBTs, it was easy to ring the steel every time. Once the corn comes off we can stretch it to 1000. Time to load up some 105 for my fast twist.

I did a very similar build last year only not stainless. New 700 SPS from Walmart during the Black Friday sale. Same stock but in brown with black webbing. Sightron SII Big Sky 3-9X42. It's even a 243. My first 243 at that.

I've been too busy to put any time into shooting it but I may get it to the range to shoot it tomorrow. It ended up being a dirt cheap build all things considered. Got the base rifle for $249 out the door with the Black Friday sale. Sold the camo stock on here for $60, sold the package scope for $35, had bdl bottom metal laying around from a rifle that got a DBM setup a few years ago. I have 4 of these sightrons that I got when I worked in the gun retail industry. Wholesaler was closing them out. $150/apiece and Sightron was running a $75 rebate. Felt like I stole them. All said, I ended up with complete scoped rifle for about $550. Can't beat that!
