At the peak of NR hunting season.. All those armed, camo-clad hunters roaming around might put a tingle up the SS's legs....... smile. Wonder if they considered that?

That said, I anticipate a few hours in the Arctic will make O the worlds foremost authority on Arctic climate change followed by designation of more FederalMonuments awaiting a Democratic Conress's conversion to national park at some future time. Legacy you know.

I couldn't have picked (unknowingly at the time) a better three days to spend fishing on the Kenai with some out of town relatives. Downtown ANC will be a pain in the ass to get around.

Let me guess. He's going to look around and say, "Whoa, look at the water all around. Climate change has flooded dry land all around."

and, "BTW, you people really ought not to be using those smelly old dirty two-stroke outboard motors and snow-mo-Beelz I see lying around your pathetic homes."

(My apologies for an image that's probably 20 years old. Kotz is probably mostly underwater now.)

I think you fellas are being too harsh, I'm sure he would like to see some AK wildlife, couldn't one of you maybe drop him off at a free range polar bear petting zoo?

I believe he's going to visit leaders from Kivilina and promise some sort of climate change initiative to stop the village from falling into the water...which will still happen, regardless what he says or does.

Almost all Natives voted for him. They are blindingly Democrats for the most part. They are agog.

Nice pic Klick. My apartment is waterfront on the lagoon side on that small V bay directly above the big white building above the runway lower right part of pic. The largest lake above that through "first bridge" is Swan Lake last year dredged to a depth of 12 feet to improve it as a small boat harbor, with shoreline landscaping. Real nice! But I keep the rubber ducky 20yards behind the apartment anyway. smile

I haven't heard anything about airspace closure but Crowley has to move their barges well offshore away from Front Street on ocean side.

I'm curious to what he's coming in on. I don't think AF1 can use a 6K runway. And too long wingspan maybe also. Word is his limo is coming in on a Herc or whatever (c134???) the heavy lift short runway plane currently in AF use. Advance party plus sycophants is expected to number 500 to 1,000.

Wife says I have to behave.

Dammit!

I know that you think we have polar bears behind every tree in the great state but Kotz is too far in land or away from the open ocean to have any polar bears! Try Kivilina or Point Hope.

the correct term is Wassilibillys

they come to North Pole and Fairbanks so they can feel cultured.

nope stereotypes don't help.

but hard to deny that our Bush community has been turned into the largest welfare state (by area) in our nation.

and you can thank a Republican, the late Ted Stevens for such.

believe he took a play from LBJ's handbook.

All I can think of when I think about Ted Stevens "legacy" is Native Corps owning a strategic "lockup" checkerboard of land in some of the most beautiful/accessible hunting ground in the world, ala Ahtna.

True that. And I always appreciate the folks in the 'out there' who recognize the problem while resenting their own dependency. It's the ones who feel entitled to it, and more of it, that I have trouble with.

Uncle Ted was pretty good at seeing many of the big pictures, and in that he often made very good decisions which involved what we call "pork". However, no one sees the big pictures perfectly and in that he also made his share of poor judgements. Then again, critiquing means the review mirror ain't foggy. or out-of-focus.

That was a lot bigger than Ted, and Alaska actually got a tremendous bargain, IMO, when the agreement was reached which gave title to Native groups while paving a way for the development of oil. I will venture that a very large percentage of every dollar that most Alaskans - and quite a few others- put into their pockets every month have their origin the the oil we get as a result of that deal. BTW, nearly twice as much land falls in BLM jurisdiction as does land in Native Corp hands. That said, the corps. did get to choose some nice parcels.

guess I don't have much trouble with the native corp. lands

those folks were due something, and some of the corp.'s are doing very well with what they started with.

ASRC and Doyon come to mind and I know, but don't know them as well some of the SE corps do very well.

it seems fitting to me, though yes, there's ground I'd like to trod that I don't due to trespassing fees.
