Hi all. My BIL just bought a new X Bolt Hunter in .30-06. I was chatting with him today and asked how it shot. He said that when he works the bolt the cocking indicator shows, but pulling the trigger doesn't drop the hammer. The rifle stays cocked and the trigger doesn't move. He assured me that the safety was off.

I haven't handled an x bolt before, but it sounds to me like the safety is still blocking the trigger. Anyone with experience with these on here? If the trigger was too light it wouldn't cock at all. Is it possible to be set so stiff that it won't break at all?

He just bought it a few days ago and mounted the scope. Nothing down the pipe except a cleaning rod. I suggested he call Browning tomorrow am and see what they say but thought that I would ask here as well. Any ideas?

First thing I'd do is remove the action from the stock and check to see if the safety button link is still attached.. (it's a wire about an inch+ in length with bends at both ends.. One goes on the safety button, the other rotates the safety on the trigger assembly) If nothing else, he'll be able to visually see if the safety is actually rotating to the OFF position..

We can go from there..

Thanks Redneck. I talked to him again today and had him work the safety a few times and try again. Low and behold, it worked fine. Seems as though it was stiff for some reason and didn't fully disengage. He's out sighting it in as we speak.
