Long after price is forgotten, quality remains. Good addition to the collection.

Steve, it's just plain fact. You are going to simply love this fine little rifle ... perhaps more than most of us would.

By the way, my father was a .250 guy. It's all he shot for big game for all the years of his life.

Here's a photo of Dad and Mom with a pair of really decent mule deer. Both were killed by .250s (Mom had her own).

I'm not sure of the year, but probably 1945 (Dad got horribly busted up in WWII)

Enjoy your new rifle, my friend,

Steve

Fantastic story and picture. I was always a 30 cal and up guy till I found this bunch and they taught me the virtues of the .250-3000. I had only one going into the forum and now I have several in both lever and bolts. All calibers will kill a deer, but there's something just electrifying about the 250 and an 87 grain pill. Here are 3 of my favorite pictures of deer taken with a 99EG and a model 1920. I used to say that I wanted to kill a deer with every Savage I owned, but I have been buying them faster than I can hunt with them. It's kinda got the best of me. grin grin grin

Steve,

I used mid-sized 7mms (7X57 and 7X308 Ackley) and a .30-'06 guy since my middle-20s (perhaps the age of reason)

You have to understand that I've killed over sixty elk, so some of my beasties were large. I finally averaged it out and started using the .280 Ackley and it killed everything I hunted in North America/Canada wonderfully.

Of course, I used just the plain .30-'06 in Africa and killed fifty-some head of plains game with it.

I finally settled down and used a wonderful gain-twist .25-'06 on antelope for the last many years.

My wife of fifty-one years, Karen, has used a .250 Ackley for probably thirty years and she is deadly with it. Indeed, I have never seen her shoot twice with it. Elk, big Alberta whitetail, prairie goats ... it makes no nevermind; she just kills them with her .250 Ackley and 100Ballistics.

Here are a couple field photos of me and a couple of the bride ... hers killed with her .250.

Best,

Steve

Steve, this prairie goat was actually way heavier of horn that it appears in the photo. This was one of Karen's harder-earned bucks and it was a whopper. She is a grand lady and the love of my life. S

Nice,,,,,,,,,,VERY nice. Lucky is a man that has a wife for a hunting companion. My wife hunts with a Ruger 77 .257 Roberts and also a T/C Encore in 7mm-08. She's a WAY better shot than me. wink wink wink

Steve,

We are both totally blessed to have our wives as our hunting partners. I cannot imagine any other way.

I'm jealous of both of you. The last time my wife walked with me in the deer woods she kept yelling "here bucky bucky." That was about 8 months before we got married. Kinda surprised we got married after that. 1972.

Nothing to be jealous of, George. When she fishes with me she has a song. "Here fishy, fishy". grin grin In all honesty, George, I just got REAL lucky the second time around. My first wife (50 years) ago was/is a REAL turd.

LBK,

Well, we had some troubles in the mid late '70s but we worked through it. It was worth it. grin

Doug,

Got to admit that I got the year wrong. '72 was when we went hunting. '73 was the year we got married. '74 when I forgot our anniversary I learned a big lesson. As the Jews say, "Never again." grin We're comfortable. Life is good. What more can you say? Still, these days when I go into the deer woods she stays home. wink grin

Nice 99 but it still amazes me how big of numbers buyers and sellers brandish about these days without blushing.

No, I'm just amazed at what people will ask and pay for 99s these days. But then again what do I know...

No, I'm just amazed at what people will ask and pay for 99s in GREAT COLLECTABLE condition these days. But then again what do I know...

I fixed it for you. I try to buy the best I can find. I figure if I am going to work till I die, by God, I'm buying what I can afford and what makes me happy. If you buy a gun that needs TLC and then you flip it, that's your business. When I buy one, most likely, it'll stay put. I don't buy them to work on and I get paid dearly for the work I do. Awhile back a learned to never buy a gun I had to defend. And, BTW, I SHOOT what I collect.
