I shot this grizzly on 8/11/2015 in Alaska on my sheep hunt with a custom 270 built by Eddie Fosnaugh.

Very nice...but we don't buy it. The 270 is only suitable for squirrels.

All kidding aside, what was your load and where did you hit him?

150 grain Nosler Partitions. The shot was exactly 175 yards head on and I hit him square in the chest. He was dead but just didn't know it. The guide had me put a second one in him for good measures but he has already doing the death spin and I don't think he needed it.

Mpossible.I have read the posts in here. A 270 would have just bounced off, probably wouldn't even make a bear react.

Jeff; No you didn't.....you couldn't have. I read it here. The 270 is no good and some guys would not be caught dead with it. wink smile

Seriously congratulations. Thats a beautiful bear! Once in a lifetime animal!

Well done.

What load/bullet did you use?

Never mind...asked and answered.

Great looking bear. Congrats!! I'm glad those 150gr. partitions work because that's the only thing I'm going to run in mine. The older I get, the more I think I should just sell all the others and keep something like a good ol 270 win...

Beautiful picture and coloring on that bear. The 270 can still about do it all and in such a pleasant manner.

It almost gives me a hankering for a 270 build.

I did not kill a sheep. Did a stalk on a group of 9 rams, two of which were legal. We came around the top of the mountain and only counted 8 sheep. The largest of the group was on a ledge 89 yards away. The wind shifted and he bolted over the top. The remain 8 ram ran up to a rim and all stopped broadside at 370 yards. It was raining and pretty foggy and the guide couldn't 100 %identify the other shooter in the group. I got the long speech before our stalk about being 100% positive I was killing a legal ram. We watched them walk away in the fog. I may try again in two years but the sheep numbers are way down.

Too bad you didn't get a sheep but that grizzly is a pretty cool consolation prize.

I'm in withdrawal as I'm down to two 270s. I just gave away a 700 to one of my favorite young hunting ladies as hers was too much for her to carry.

Oh well.....I guess I can scrape by for this season.

Why the brake on the .270?? Not a criticism, just curious?

Not the OP, I picked up a youth 270 that already had a break on it.

Makes it very pleasant to shoot. If you couple it with reduced loads, you can hardly tell you fired it.

The brakes just looks cool, no other reason. Eddie has built several rifles for me and I put it on all of them. On the bigger guns, it helps kill the muzzle jump and makes for a quicker follow up shot..

Beautiful bear and rifle - congrats on a great trip.

.270 Win. That's the perfect cartridge for a hunt like that!

Nice bear, rifle and shot. My favorite cartridge, along with it the 30/06. So much can be done with these 2 they make most others almost pointless.

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H
