Hi...thought I'd pass this along. This is from a local FB firearms selling group. The gentleman's name is Mark Jennings: "SELLING MY JOHN WAYNE WINCHESTER MODEL 94 IN 32-40 RIFLE THIS NEVER HAS BEEN SHOT OR RACKED THIS HAS A BAND TO KEEP IT FROM BEING RACKED CAN BE TAKEN OF EASY JUST DIDNT WANT IT RACKED HAVE THE BOX WITH IT AND THE PAPER WORK NO TRADES .CASH THEY MADE THIS IN THE 80'S HARD TO FIND SELLING FOR 1500 OBO IN RIGBY CALL 208-390-3595"

I don't know Winchester lever guns all that well, but it seems like it'd be a catch for collectors so I'm passing it along.

There were a LOT of different "John Wayne" 94's made in that time period and prices are all over the place. You'd need GOOD pics and additional info to attract much interest.

If I remember correctly their were 3 series of John Waynes. One was very limited and several thousands of dollars new (these are still bringing good money). Then there was a moderate priced one that they made like 10,000 of and then one that they made as many as possible. For any of them they need to be absolutely brand new with all boxes and papers to be worth anything. If they've been shot they are worth a little more than a standard 94 - they are just a fancy shooter.

I made a good bit of money on the John Wayne ammo. I would go to gun shows with a fish bowl of JW 32.40 ammo and sell them for $5 a piece and the empty box for $10. I was selling $20 boxes of ammo for $110!!! Even now the ammo is worth quite a bit for both it's collectors value and for hunting since any 32/40 ammo is getting hard to find.

When I was stationed in Germany in the early '80s one of my friends bought a John Wayne and some of that 32-40 ammo at the Rod and Gun on Post. When it came time for him to rotate back to the states he could ship the rifle but not the ammo. He hollowed out a couple of large candles, put the ammo in the hollow and melted the wax that he'd removed to cover the hole. Made it home to the States just fine.
