Tom, It shoots purty good. I called it an AI actually it's a .275 Rigby Improved AKA 7x57AI. Most of the time it shoots MOA, shows some ability to be better than that. I have neglected this one for quite a while, need to spend some time with it. Will start that very soon. Personally, long tubes on a #1 just make them look sexy.....

RGK, that rig is GORGEOUS! Who did the reciever and lever? Turnbull? The stock work, checkering and case hardening were done by Justin McMillan of Hill Country Rifles. Justin also did the custom scope bases, barrel work and installed the Kepplinger trigger. All the work was done in-house by Justin. It groups quite well, too. Bob

Smallest & largest: A Bee in a #1B. Haven't shot it a lot, but it seems like it will do well. I have a 12x Loopey for it, and I should really take some better pictures of it. And at the other end, a .475 Turnbull:

I love the 1A and 1S configurations the most. To my eye, they are the classiest production rifle extant.
Nice to see no bubba buddies on any of them.
Kudos.

As you can see I do too. However the 1AH in 25.06 handles very well, and the 1B in 6mm, I have has had a 1/2 in length taken from the butt and 2 in from the barrel.
Really feels quite a bit livelier then an unaltered 1B.

Haven't shot it yet............. No excuse just haven't had it out. Been using a CZ 527 fullstock in 22 Hornet most of the summer as well as the 1S in 218 Bee. The hornet with a 36gr Barnes , 13gr Lilgun, 6x weaver Disregard the 2 shots on the left and right they were from another rifle. Bottom shot was the first shot before adjusting the elevation. What loads are you using in your .222 ? Flyer

Honest to God I tried 5 different loads...all with 55 and 60 grain bullets....and it liked them ALL. I settled on 19.5 grains of IMR 4198 behind a 55 grain Hornady SP...cause I have a zillion of them.... Just ordered some 50 Barnes TTSX............. Gonna try sizzling them out and shoot a deer or some pigs...if not the55 gr. Horn will kill the pigs. See post on previous age....

Have lot's of Hornady 55gr sp , but not much IMR 4198.
Can't use .224 diameter on Big Game in Alberta. Have a 6x45 for that.
Have seen a 22 Hornet used in Manitoba , resulting in Deer to feild dress.

I can't compete in the looks department either......some of those sure are pretty. I was cursed with plain wood, but I still enjoy it. But I've been happy with how it shoots so far. This was my first loading 405gr Remington 73gr of IMR 4895

That is my lot in life as well. Good to have a purpose I love on No.1's with homely wood that others won't. Hunt the crap out of 'em too, though I do try not to ding or scratch as best I can, and keep them oiled. Did wear the blue off one in a saddle scabbard though.

I wish Ruger still offered the BH configuration. So do I, but I don't see it happening. Actually, there was the Lipsey? special issue about 10 years ago in 25-06, but it was actually an AH with a 24" barrel - close, but no cigar.

The heavier b contour barrel makes the ah forend look very svelte. Never new there was such a configuration. Neat.

That is beautiful. The fore end, is it just the photo or is it actually slimmer at the front than current AH wood?

The early guns had much better shaped wood and were generally more elegant in appearance. The forearm probably looks smaller die to the larger medium weight barrel.

I just got a custom project finished on a #1 action. Chambered in 7MM-08 with a 24 inch tapered octagon barrel, case colored metal. It's a tack driver with NBT 140gr and IMR 4350. I'm not computer savvy enough to post pics though:(
Also picked one up in 450-400NE

1969 4-digit in 243Win... original Douglas barrel, Canjar set trigger. Years ago, I found a Meopta 7x50 scope on closeout at a ridiculous price, so I threw that on it for now. Previous owner had messed up the recoil pad, so I'm in process of getting that straightened out. Like a lot of the early ones, this one has nice wood. I've handloaded for it. It has a very long leade and so bullet seating depth looks absurd but it is quite accurate with the right combos. Longest made shot with it in the field is a touch over 500yds.

My 375 H&H should be stocked for strength, and it seems to be well chosen in that regard, but it has nice color and decent figure as well.

My Ruger No.1's and No.3's are all varmint rifles shot from a bench so they tend to have heavy barrels and large scopes. I always thought this one looked the part of a serious PD slayer with its 15X 2" Unertl and 24" straight taper barrel. It was already rebarreled to .225 WW when I bought it 20 some years ago and after many years in the PD towns I had it rebarreled to .204 Wasp. Dave

My Redfield Rev 2-7X won't fit and offset rings I don't care for. Proly try an old M8 4x next (haven't scored a deal on one). Most boring wood I've ever seen on a #1. Been watching the Youtube vids of Wild Boar Fever...........can't afford a Merkel Helix and Aimpoint micro so took the RSI and funkied it up (remember, my 2-7X doesn't fit- if I crank it past 4x I gotta be a giraffe). Before anybody tries to burn a cross in my yard....... this thing works, and is a hoot. Inside of 100 yards it might be a dandy little deer rig. A bit heavy for my kid to run though. No chance of scope eye (just a little .243 anyway). Guys at range banging away from bench with milsurp, I popped two clays on the bank (85 yards) offhand with ease. Short, the balance, overall weight, and no sight magnification.........it is a fun little rig! [img:center] http://i.imgur.com/9Js0Oqj.jpg?1[/img]

The 45-70 isn't 'centerfold' material, but it isn't a wallflower either.

Very nice rifles. I didn't know Ruger made the #1 in 22LR very cool. Is the 25-06 a Merkel?

Yes, those are some very nice looking rifles. I always wanted a #1, it never did happen. Hey, maybe someday.
