There has been some discussion recently on Lyman #54 sights for the 1920 & their value. I collect sights and like to have some reasonable estimate on value in case I run across something, I didn't have the best information when I made some of my past purchases. I don't think either of the last two #54's that were listed on eBay sold, but both had some condition issues and some modifications, one of them had a lot, so I wouldn't consider them of any help on value. The one a few months ago was made up with incorrect parts and the most recent looked like it had the small flip up aperture removed by grinding away the back of it's mount. I saw another about a week ago that did sell, the pictures are dark but I didn't see any issues with it, it has the screw windage adjustment, which I think is correct for one version. From the previous discussions on value this one seemed to go really low, is that the case, or is this a more realistic indication of their actual value, or did I miss something in the pictures? http://www.ebay.com/itm/231653000523

Badly labelled auctions usually result in lower prices.

What Rory said. My thought is that had the seller auctioned it as a Lyman 54 rather than a vintage Lyman it would have attracted more attention and sold higher. JMOOMV.

I spotted it early on but passed because then I would have had to grow another rifle around it.

Somebody got a steal on that one. The seller had a bunch of other sights that were advertised equally as well, or not. Somebody also got a good deal on a Lyman 48Y from the same seller.

The saddest thing is that I looked at that sight... and didn't recognize it. And I have a 1920 for it to go on.

Probably would have been bid up to $500 if I'd tried for it.

OK, so if I see one on a table somewhere for $175~$200 I should buy it... and if I see one for ~$495~ I should pass, unless I think Rory might still need one and I decide making $5 would be enough for the deal.
When this one ended I had hopes the Lyman SM for the 1903's he had list would go low, no such luck.

I almost bid myself, but as said above I'd find myself compelled to get another 1920. I am happy with the one I have and need the money for other more important things, though the 48Y would have found a home!

It's a wise man that buys his sights with the correct rifle under them.
