After my son and daughter got married I started giving several away. My son-in-law is especially pleased.

Most people don't really want the truth.

They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

I've been thinking it's time to start letting go of some of the stuff now in order to be sure it ends up where I want it to be.
Sure gonna leave a big empty hole in the safe though.

Good on you. That sounds like a perfect rifle for where he'll be. It might hurt for a while, but I'm sure he'll love it...

My thinking is sorta like the OP's. I have a bunch of guns I've accumulated over the years. I'd rather start thinning them out now, placing them where they need to go rather than having family struggle with an estate loaded with piles of guns and related stuff.

What's easy for me may prove a major hassle for them. I'm looking down the road, streamlining my collection, making a few trades, guns I don't use for ones I can play with, selling others.

I'm keeping the keepers, wheeling and dealing with the rest.

A guy can PUT IN WRITING who gets which gun/s. Some might want to start enjoying them now. Some may not be ready yet.

To 'WILL' them is another way to avoid last minute hassle/struggle.

Well, in my case, my son gets all the guns. My daughter gets other stuff. Her husband knows nothing about hunting, shooting or guns.

My son would be overwhelmed with the volume of guns I now have, thus my plan to thin the herd and let some go.

When my daughter's family moved to Wyoming I gave my bowhunting son in law his choice of any rifle I owned. Thinking he would probably choose one of my 7 RMs, he surprised me by choosing my only .308 Win. and it was a really accurate one.

Congrats to you and your grandson. My only grandkid so far is only 1-1/2 years old. Think I'll wait a while before giving him any guns.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.
