I see these advertisements for fake cell phone holders in which to carry a CCW.

So if it is hanging on your belt, but the handgun can not be actually seen, it is concealed?

What about one of these?

Would this violate the "flashing" provision of your license?

Would not be legal in TX, at least until January when our open carry law finally takes affect.

Fortunately, most states that have CHPs and any concept of the 2A as governs OC don't have "flashing" provisions.

It is quite doubtful that a full flap holster worn on the belt and not covered by a jacket or similar would be considered "concealed carry". There is no intent or design to conceal the handgun. A cell phone "holster" designed to mask the handgun as something else is, be definition and design, concealment.

The enforcement policy in Michigan provides that a handgun is not considered legally concealed when carried in a visible holster that completely hides the weapon if the holster is a conventional design such as one of the illustrated flap holsters. However it would be considered concealed if carried in an exposed holster disguised as a cell phone holder or some other non-firearm item.

The key in determining the concealed status is whether a casual observer would quickly recognize that the person is armed.

Idaho allows open carry, though the only folks I see doing it in larger towns are the attention seekers.

In fact I was on my way home earlier in the week (in town)and saw a 20 something year old OCing some pistol in a crappy nylon holster.

It was obvious he was looking for attention.

I kept driving.

Though I personally consider it dumb, he was not violating any laws and I didn't care to get sucked into an unsolicited, one sided conversation with a typically socially inept tard, who thinks he has his ninja skills all wired tight, due to his hours of youtube training..

OCing while out recreating, camping, riding ATVs, etc. sure. In town, no thanks.

Boise, Caldwell, Nampa....Yep I totally agree.

But in New Plymouth, or Sweet, or Ola.....
No one even gives you a second look if you stop for gas or even snacks at the local C-store with a handgun hanging from your hip.

I have done so my self a few times when making a quick stop on the way to the field.

But then, we also still see a rifles and shotguns hanging in the back window of a few pickup trucks in these parts.

To each his own. In NC, the law does not specifically "permit" one to open carry, but rather it does not restrict it but for "going in terror of the public." Hence it is common practice to see open carry exercised, law enforcement understands it, and including in towns excepting the liberal big cities (where every idiot would perceive "terror," naturally).

There's a neat little old time gas station become breakfast grill, always packed, near my work. It's normal that every other hip at the counter has an outside carry. Some are police, fire, emt but most are just regular good old boys having breakfast. And while unfortunately even in rural NC gang and thug violence is becoming far too routine, I can't ever recall an "incident" attributed to OC involving one of those boys at the counter, attentions seeker or not. So while I don't generally practice it in town myself, still I see it as a celebration of the 2nd Amendment and smile.

Before the current concealed carry law was passed, a pistol in a holster was considered concealed. Now it is not. This is in Arkansas. miles

Yep,

Places like sweet and ola nobody would give you a second look. Not so much in downtown Boise.

I don't have any issue with anyone who wants to open carry but for myself I'd just as soon no one knew. I'm happy being that invisible, middle aged, bald guy. I don't feel the need for that that kind of attention so I'll carry concealed.

4ager answered your question already, but an analogy that came to mind is when models are painted up to look like they're wearing clothes. They may look clothed but everyone knows they're still nekkid.

Seemed close to an analogy anyway............

we have always had open carry in arizona, and we do have concealed carry permits, but not required to carry concealed.
however flashing could get you in jail.
in a holster is one thing, but you had better have a good reason for drawing a gun in a group situation.

i kind of like those flap holster and have several of them.
I am not so concerned about the fast draw stuff, as they provide good protection again mud, snow, rain, sleet, ice, dirt, and so on.
I think there is a reason why the military used them for so long.
i have a number of the real ones, but don't use them because of age and collector value, but i do also have a number of these.

These guys do more harm to the 2A than many gun haters. If enough of these guys show up at McDonalds restaurants on a Saturday afternoon and large number so moms are alarmed, expect many letters to legislators (state and national). No good can come from this.
