I was at the range today to sight in my new to me savage 99c 308 cal.
I shot three shells, all went into the chamber with no problems, the first ejected with no problems, the second stuck in the chamber a little but I put a little bit more pressure on the lever and it came out, the third stuck in the chamber and I had to remove it later at home.
I measured the ejected brass from the gun they measured .467 then I measured a unfired shell from the box of Winchester Power points and it measured .463 the empty shell expanded .004.
I then sighted in a Remington 700 in a bolt action 308 cal and I decided to measure the what the brass did in gun. I used hornady 308 the spent shells measured .469 and an unfired shell measured .465 a difference of .004.
I was able to slide the hornady live round into the savage with no problem but did not shoot one off to see what would happen trying to extract it.
So can some one help me out on what I should do?
Do I need to try different shells that the gun likes or is there something else going on here?
I did give the gun a cleaning before firing it was dirty.
The next question I have is that if I shoot the hornady shells they would only expand .002 after the round is fired off is this OK or too tight?

The first thing I would look at doing is running a chamber brush up in the chamber, wrap it with a white patch to better evedence what is coming out. Chamber brush's are readily available for 308. Since you are using two different kinds of factory ammo it is rather unlikely you are having pressure issues. Also check the cases for any scratches that would indicate a burr or something in the chamber. If all that fails I would then have the headspace checked.
