Just got back from annual trip. Weather was great but fish weren't feeling it the first three days. We were working our butts off for 30-50 fish in the boat per day. Barometer or something changed and they finished the week as normal, easily doubling the numbers.
Didn't get any real big ones, so heres the selection:

Average fish: About 6 pounds + or -

A couple a little over average..up to about #10...

And Ingwewifes winner...

I love northerns! They are fun to catch and delicious as well. When my son was younger, we would wind up with me motoring him around so he could get white spinner baits torn to bits and bent all to hell. We had so much fun that the walleyes would pout at being ignored.

Nice fish.
Thanks for posting.
The Wife's guide looks a litte sketchy but she doesn't need much help to catch fish.

Lots of fun! Nice pics. Can't always get the submarines to play, but at least the smaller ones are fun.

Northern Alberta. Gypsy Lake- a fly-in proposition.

Looks like a good trip. Also looks like a panther Martin with a lime green zoom trick worm on the back of it. Do those hot color turn those pike on?

30-50 sounds great to me so you must have smoked them jokers after it picked up!

Any hot colors appeal to them, Fire Tiger, blaze orange etc...but chartreuse seems to have an edge. After things picked up we went back to the normal of boating 100-150 fish per day....( thats for the two of us in the boat...) grin

What is it about chartreuse. Crappie, bluegills, bass, they all like it, especially crappie, smallmouth and spotted bass. Best color ever. Seems like when they are active it makes them bite even better.

Light tackle as usual?

Yep. 5 and 1/2 food ultralights with Shimano 750 Sedonas and #10 fire line. Worked on all sizes as usual.

Side note : Provincial law dictates the use of single barbless hooks only, which we prefer anyway cause it makes the pike easier to unhook and release. we are using 2/0 and 3/0 hooks and the OTHER reason for barbless sold itself on this trip. Reaching down for a hooked pike, he threw the 2/0 hook.....into my thumb. It went in past where the barb would be and bounced back out so fast I didn't even have time to scream like a little girl!
Beats spending 15 minutes cutting it out....

teal: no fly rod this time...Ive used it a lot in the past but frankly quit because it takes so long to land each fish. About three times as long as spinning tackle.....and frankly Id rather just get the fish off, toss it back in and get another! grin
